We already tax the rich more than the middle class or the poor. Check the IRS tax rates on earnings.

 

great, my numbers are a few years old, but essentially correct in that the tax is capped. high income individuals do no pay taxes on their higher marginal income. the tax is regressive.;

 

Because those on the left are disposed to dismiss The Bell Curve as "pseudo science" - which it certainly is not - they are ill equipped to respond to your argument.

This is how Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray respond in Chapter 22, "A Place for Everyone," in The Bell Curve, pages 527, 528:

In other words, those who do something useful deserve to be treated with economic decency, regardless of the market value of what they do, as long as they obey the law.

 

Conservatives like to say that anyone who finishes high school, takes any job he can find, and gets married before having children will not be poor.

A friend I had in high school graduated from college, served in the army, has never had illegitimate children, and usually worked two jobs during his adult life. He could probably transport everything he owns in his old car. Those who do see people like that are not looking.

There are ways we can direct the government to discourage rich people from doing that. For example, they can be prevented from doing business in the United States. The government can confiscate their wealth.

 

obeying the law, serving on juries and the military, not being a public problem are all necessary for a functional society. economically stressing people into substance abuse, marital strife and other destructive behavior is no way to order society.

 

What's happening is that neither side can quit spending. The national debt has nothing to do with taxes. It is out of control because spending is out of control. In fact, tax revenues actually increase every year.

Is there only one employer in a 20 mile radius? While there may be areas where there aren't many employers, then choices need to be made.

Oh no, never is the responsibility on the individual, it is all the greedy corporation's fault! Oy vey....

 

As I pointed out previously in this thread, when the marginal top tax rate was never below 70%, and usually much higher, the national debt as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) declined from 114% in 1945 to 32% in 1980. Because of Republican tax cuts for the rich and spending increases for the military, the national debt as a percentage of GDP rose to 129% during Trump's last year on office, but declined to 123% after two years of Biden's presidency.

Most Americans want more domestic spending, paid for by higher taxes on the rich.

When someone actually believes that 'confiscation of wealth' will be limited to 'only' the very rich, means they have no concept of history.

Since it is impossible to make everyone rich, it is necessary to make everyone poor.

The national debt is due to out of control spending. Tax revenues have increased every year.

 

This is the reason why you don't blend todays democrat with today's conservatives. It only gives birth to something far worse than both ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Tax revenues would have increased far more if the rich and the corporations were getting the large tax increases most Americans want them to get.

 

I have already pointed out that when the rich were taxed far more, the national debt as a percentage of gross domestic produce declined.

Back then the government had plenty of money to increase spending on domestic programs.

When the Democrat Party taxed the rich heavily to benefit middle class and working class people the Democrat Party dominated the United States.

 

The Democrats let the tax issue get away from them. The key to Democrat domination of the United States is to raise taxes on the rich, and raise spending on the working class and middle class. That is what most of the voters want, as I demonstrated by posting a FOX poll.

The economics of Robbin Hood is good politics for the Democrat Party.

To an extent, yes, as long as the failures did the best the could.

Beyond an extent I see little moral significance in the distribution of wealth and income in the United States. Hard work, honesty, and common decency will keep one out of prison, and off of welfare. They will not guarantee success.

 

Life is rosy when someone can take money from one group, and give it to another.

'Domestic programs' have become handouts to curry favor with particular groups. As I've said in other threads here recently, the government thrives on taxation, and if you don't see a problem with that, then the government playing benevolent Uncle is a lead in for something far worse.

The government's spending far exceeds anticipated or current revenues. It's why we keep hitting this debt ceiling issue. It should not be a matter of taxing the people more, it should be the government finding ways to reduce fraud, redundancy, and inefficiency.

Just keep in mind, you can always pay more to the US Treasury than they demand if you feel the tax rates are too low.

 

And there you have it. A promotion for theft.

 

Tax revenues increased every year. Spending is going up exponentially. Even when the facts are right in front of your face, you deny them.
