Interesting, though its seems highly unlikely that he could win the majority of the country. It would be sweet for Obama if he could though!

Can we please stop making predictions? Every time people start talking about how so-and-so's on top, he plummets. Every time someone's "out of the race," he makes a comeback. If you should expect anything, you should expect Santorum to decline over the next few weeks, because that's what's happened every other time somebody rose for awhile!

Meanwhile, many of the primaries and caucuses aren't even selecting binding delegates, what delegates are being selected are being allocated proportionately, and a brokered convention is a distinct possibility. No one knows anything and nothing can be known about how this race will turn out.

I had nothing to do with this.

I can't see Santorum taking the White House from Obama. Sure, he'll get the "anyone but Obama" vote, but he'll loose out on the crucial independent/moderate/undecided vote.

Nice, there is a reason that Dems love Romney.

Can the GOP get to the convention and say "naaah none of these guys" and just give the nomination to someone else?

Its really looking like we could have a brokered convention this year. With a lot of these primaries switching from winner takes all, over to proportional representation, i'd say we may not have a clear winner for the nomination. Other than Ron Paul, its anyone's game.

Ron Paul's coming in second in some of these states, is second nationally according to a recent poll, and could very well be first in states such as Maine and Washington.

It appears that everyone just assumes Ron Paul can't win because, well, he's Ron Paul and Ron Paul can't win.

he cant win because the GOP wont give him the nomination even if he wins more delegates, they still have super delegates and about a million other gimmicks to make sure that the candidate is acceptable

Well thats the thing. Ron Paul needs to actually win some of these states if he is going to be a serious contender. Simply coming in 2nd or 3rd in all of these primaries does not get him the nomination.

Hurdles are not absolute. If you think they are, I don't know why you support any candidate in a banana republic, since it makes no difference.

they are not absolute, no doubt. it would be insanely risky to give the nomination to someone who didnt win it.....im not sure Paul would be scary enough for the GOP to do that....they would probably just lay down and let him lose to OBama

taking out all the political calculations, the policy differences and every other important issue....

the american people are shallow and wont elect an old bald liver spotted president just like they wont elect a big fat one (sorry Christy Creme )

Actually, he technically doesn't, if first place keeps rotating between these other candidates and/or if there's a brokered convention.

Furthermore, many of these contests are mere straw polls and largely meaningless, except for the fact that the media loves them. The delegates in Iowa, for example, haven't even been allocated. Though Santorum won (by a hair's breadth) the glorified straw poll, Ron Paul or anyone could win the plurality of that state's delegates. The same goes for Nevada, Missouri, Minnesota...

Furthermore, Ron Paul has a fairly decent shot at winning the caucus/primary contests in Maine, Washington, and Louisiana, for example, and thus, presumably, meeting the arbitrary and pointless media-driven standard of "serious candidate."

What does that mean? If he wins it, he wins it, despite anything they can do to stop it.

Ron Paul isn't bald or liver spotted. Though I do agree Americans often elect people based on appearance, such as the man in your avatar.

no, if he wins the most delegates via the priamry process he hasnt won the nomination until the party leadership gives it to him. they may or may not....I really think its 50/50. he does not support the party platform, and they may not want the party banner tied to a guy running AGAINST their platform.

they arent going to sacrifice the senate and house because RP got more college students to stop playing video games on some tueday caucuses

I don't think the party leadership has quite that much power: to simply give the nomination to whoever they want regardless of delegates. They have the power to influence to process and pull dirty tricks of various sorts, but there is a limit to what they can get away with.

there are super delegates, and many of these delegates they won are really uncommited....im not going to prtend to be an expert, but the more I look at it the more I see the leadership capable of swinging it at the convention

Its a long ways to go still, Ron Paul is racking up delegates slowly but surely. He is not out at all. Still plenty of states to go and the way things are going nobody is running away with it so everyone is still in the game.
