The purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to allow for an armed citizenry so as to protect a free society. So it states that our right to possess firearms and carry them shall not be infringed upon.

But of course, any modern and civil society needs some regulations upon firearms.

We shouldn't be able to own rocket launchers and explosives.

Children, felons, and severly mentally disturbed people should be able to purchase firearms.

Now, as to regulations upon what kinds of guns one can own?

Regulations as to who/where/when someone can carry their firearm outside of their property, hunting, and a shooting range?

    That's the big question.

I'd argue that in many places, like NYC, gun laws go too far. I'd also argue that in some places, like Texas, gun laws aren't strong enough.

NYC makes it almost impossible for an average Joe to have a CCW permit. These laws need to be loosened, as they virtually ban legal possession of firearms outside of one's property...which clealy violates the "bear arms" part of the 2nd Amendment.

But the idea that any laws, any regulations, and rules for firearms violate the 2nd Amendment, well that's a very extremist interpretation of the term "infringe". One can logically & intelligently argue that "infringe" means a total ban, not simply regulations.

Why? Why do the laws in NYC need to be loosened?

the constitution doesn't say everyone has the rights but those that committed a crime or have mental issues

while a persons on paper, they are like a child to the state, they have to obey mom and dads order, once they have paid their debt to society the constitutional rights apply imo

now if we want to remove the right from the constitution and make it a privilege like driving a car... then that is a different story, but that currently is not the way it is

Why? Why do you chime in on politics that don't concern you? You're a foreigner, why do think what you have to say about our domestic affairs is even relevant?

Because the world is listening in. Because America influences the rest of the world - and I would like to be a counter influence when it comes to your sick gun culture

What good is the right to the means to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government if that same government is authorized to regulate those means?

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Obviously it is meant to protect a free State from a tyrannical Federal body or invaders. That means that the right of the people to keep and bear Arms is protected and that means Arms necessary to protect the State and oneself. The right to bear arms in English history is believed to have been regarded in English law as an auxiliary to the long-established natural right of self-defense, auxiliary to the natural and legally defensible rights to life.

It is my concern when you spread it across the internet - once you post on an international forum where other Aussies and people outside the USA can read it then it becomes my concern

2A has no international liability. It is within a single sovereign Nation.

What about Black citizens who go armed themselves with concealed carry and also -- obviously -- have a gun or guns at home? Ooops!

Hmmmmm . . . for that matter you might just have a bit of a fight on your hand separating Hispanic-Americans from their right to own and carry.

Your concern is irrelevant, like I said. You have the right to butt your uneeded and unwelcomed opinions, that's true. But, ownership of firearms is a right of every American enshrined in our constitution, and confirmed by our supreme court. There's absolutely nothing you can say that will change that fact. You don't like our gun culture, >>>MOD EDIT: INSULT<<<
