I wonder if prior to the virus the actions of campus SJW's to suppress conservative speech altered anyone's behavior. I also wonder if public figures on the Right have ever received death threats. How much of a smear is the idea of campuses as bastions of liberalism:

    First: "presumably"

Second: if college professors aren't saying anything which could be construed as liberal indoctrination, what's the problem?

It doesn't take a professor to know that anything you say in front of a web cam can be made public. It would take extreme gullibility to believe they were bring tricked. They are either using their position to push their beliefs or they are not.

    It’s theft.

I would 100% take that to the highest court that I could.

You mean using tax and tuition dollars to push their liberal beliefs? I agree with you.

Filming a lecture and sharing it. That is theft. I hope they try this.

It’s not legal at all to film/record your lecture without approval. It is the Professors Intellectual Property.

No engineering or math professor would care if one of their lectures was “stolen”. Only a professor with dirty little indoctrination secrets to hide would care.

The university would be ok with their lectures that people pay thousands for being disseminated for free on the internet?

    Great business plan there.

Obviously not all of them, but a few here and there? Yeah, they wouldn't give a crap. It's not like you could watch a few lectures on YouTube, and then demand that the school grant you a diploma.

The only professors who would be worried and angry about having a single lecture revealed, or even just snippets of a lecture, are professors with dirty little leftist-indoctrination secrets to hide.

It doesn't even sound like the plan is to disseminate the lectures in their entirety, but rather to shine a spotlight on professors attempting to push liberal indoctrination on their students. That's not going to require the entire lecture.

I know some of our so-called teachers/professors are pretty awful, but I can't imagine one who could carry on a liberal indoctrination theme thru an entire lecture. At some point even the worst liberal propaganda pusher would have to slip in some actual facts and teaching, I'd think.

Even so, what school would be dumb enough to persue it and invite the media circus to their door if it did look bad? They would bury it through internal mechanisms...

In states with "one-party consent" laws, it wouldn't be illegal to record the lecture without the professor's consent, and using snippets of the lecture to shine a light on any wackiness would be covered by "fair use".

    Perfectly legal.

Project Veritas is proof of that.

How would they put the genie back in the bottle once it was up on YouTube?

And yes, leftist colleges are absolutely clueless enough to shine the Streisand Effect beacon upon themselves in their righteous indignation.

Imagine a video of a math professor droning on about the Pythagorean Theorem gets secretly recorded, and a snippet gets put up on YouTube. Do you think the math professor would give a crap? Heck, he'd probably be thrilled that someone had enough interest in math to put in the effort, and people cared enough to watch it.

It's not like that math professor has any dirty little math secrets he wants to stay hidden.

Not the same. This is recording of work product and intellectual property.

Even if you jump up and down in protest, this is not theft of intellectual property. You would have a point if the video was being sold. If you have a camera and a mic in front of you, you cannot claim you were tricked.

A wacky butthurt leftist tried that same Legal FU on Sargon of Akkad. Hilarity ensued.
    "Muh intellectual properties! Muh copyrights!"

Nope. Fair use. Case dismissed, and cough up the legal fees, toots.

You know good and well that is not the same as taping a lecture that is a for profit.

Also might want to check, because just about every major college has rule forbidding it without express permission of the professor.

And hers was a for-profit YouTube video. In the eyes of the law, it's exactly the same thing.

And that could be held against the student who recorded, and leaked it, and, if caught, that student could be held to punishment by the college, not the cops. The police don't care about college-rule breakers.

Any video that gets out there is fair game though, because the college's punishment powers don't stretch beyond the boundaries of the campus.

All that simple logic and thought is unfortunately wasted when debating a liberal. I agree with you 100% by the way.
