Before WW ll America had its small military made up of professionals adventures who liked kicking ass and breaking bones. They were known as U.S. Marines. It was the only branch of the U.S. military before 1947 that required being an U.S. citizen.

George S. Patton in his "Patton Papers" vol. 1 mentions the Marine Corps around 1910 or so being America's elite fighting force.

Gen."Black Jack" John Pershing referred to the 'worlds most deadliest weapon being a U.S. Marine and his rifle.'

Before WW ll America had fought well over a hundred wars most of them being small wars of punitive actions.
They were fought by U.S. Marines.

America's big wars ( Mexican-American War, American Civil War, Spanish American War, WW l, WW ll, Korean War and the Vietnam War) were fought by American citizen soldiers.

China controls 90% of rare earths worldwide. There's only one site in the US for rare earth mining and China is invested in that, too.

That's why this trade war is so stupid. At any time China could just say, "NO RARE EARTHS FOR YOU !!!!" .... and we'd be screwed.

 

I think this is why so many of our vets are committing suicide. The minute boys turn 18, they are chased after by the recruiting officers with promises of a free education afterwards so they won't have to take out a loan or burden their parents. Also that they'll be fighting terrorists and doing a service to their country and the world.

What they find though is that instead of killing terrorists, our country supports them for some obscure political agenda and instead of being the 'good guys' who are there to sacrifice themselves for the common good, they are looked on as evil incarnate by half the world.

 

I read that it's one of the reasons Trump wanted to buy Greenland. Now though that Rare Earth's have been found in S. Africa, who knows what Washington will do? Will they push for a regime change to get them out of BRICS? Who knows?

Your vision is that Trump and russian state (?) media are 'bad'. But in fact russian media reacted to Trump's words, just because it is a good clickbaiting piece of news in Russia. And Trump is making his game around the interests of americans. At the moment US really needs Greenland to take more territory of the Arctic in the future. As for Putin he can be used to earn some political points for coming elections and solve some of the world problems that needs russian participation. Once it is done and Trump decides to play against Russia Putin will turn to 'nasty' and after Danish capitulation Danish PM would become 'OK'.
