Quite the embarrassment for the military if true. However, who here wants to argue to lower defense spending when you have nuclear armed advanced Russian stealth submarines patrolling our shores freely. I mean, we may as well to just invite the Russian military onto the mainland and let them build a base right next to the pentagon if we are don't know when they are miles off out coast line.

During the cold war, this would be okay,a submarine can patrol off the shore, but it would be known, detected and you'd have defense tactics in place in case something goes rogue. Here, the United States was caught with their pants down.

Yes, because obviously Russia is just FROTHING at the mouth thinking about the chance to nuke and invade the U.S. Lets completely ignore the fact that we also have nukes and allies and the ability to increase military spending AFTER a threat becomes visible and those two small ponds called the pacific and the atlantic. Strong relations with Canada. Strong relations with mexico and both having terrain that is difficult to move troops through. Lets also ignore Russia isnt the USSR and has no reason to nuke us.

But please, don't let me get in the way of you fearmongering about how other countries have competant enough submarines (ships designed to be stealthy) to occasionally pass by our defences.

" allegedly a Russian submarine quietly patrolled the Gulf of Mexico unnoticed by the U.S. military."

    Alleged by who?

"One official said the Akula operated without being detected for a month."

how would we know it operated here a month without being detected?

    So did this happen?

    Maybe.

Was the submarine undetected or was it tracked? We don't know.

And I doubt we will. Why would the U.S. advertise it if they had been tracking the Russian sub all along?

Disconcerting if true, and a good reason why our national defense should be bar none.

Vandenburg AFB and Ft. Greeley are where America's national missile defense interceptors are based.

What is the deal with you people? Are other countries not allowed to have a military or something? You know the US has invasion plans for almost every single country and many many many countries are unable to detect the majority of our subs right?

    Military exercises=/= military aggression.

America isn't flying simulated attacks off the coast of Russia. There's no reasonable explanation for the Russians simulating attack missions off the American coast.

To think that America doesn't have simulations set up for an attack on Russia is like thinking it doesn't have simulations set up for an attack on China. Its just much easier to scaremonger with a headling of "Russia preparing to attack US" rather than "US preparing to attack Russia."

edit: Any country with a smart (read smart, not large or excessive) military prepares to fight other countries.

    This is a TERRIBLE problem!

We need to correct it IMMEDIATELY!

Since throwing nearly a TRILLION DOLLARS PE YEAR at this problem has NOT SOLVED it, I suggest we go a DIFFERENT route!

Lets CUT THE DEFENSE CONTRACTOR MILITARY BUDGET IN HALF, and ANY system that does NOT meet specs in the field 100% will result in jail or even execution for TREASON for the failure starting with the CEO's and working down!!

A submarine was undetected? Yeah, that's what they do. That's their entire point.

Some people appear to beleive that the only military force in existence that should ever exist is the American one.

Earlier, in response to questions about the Alaska Bear H intrusion, Marine Corps Col. Frank H. Simonds, Jr., deputy chief of staff for NORAD-U.S. Northcom, also defended the Russian bomber intrusion as nonthreatening.

“NORAD does not consider these flights a threat,” Simonds said, noting “Russia and NORAD routinely exercise their capability to operate in the North.”

Simonds identified the Alaska defense zone intruders as Tu-95MS bombers that were met by U.S. F-15s and Canadian CF-18s.

“Interaction between NORAD fighters with these types of aircraft are carried out routinely,” Simonds said. “As part of its responsibilities to identify all aircraft in its area of operation, which includes the ADIZ, NORAD has visually identified more than 50 Russian long range bomber aircraft over the last 5 years and NORAD fighters have been interacting with Russian aviation for over 50 years.”

How do you come to this conclusion by the reaction of people who are concerned about a Russian sub chilling off our coast? Is it not worthy of concern? I think it's fair to assume that they weren't studying marine life.

Since the dawn of time, there is has only been ONE rule. The guy with the biggest stick, makes the rules.

Make sure YOU are the one making those rules. Be kind and generous, but be the one making the rules. ;-)

They chill off your coast. The US no doubt chills off their coast. That's a good thing. Keep everyone honest.

Remember in June, during the NATO Summit, and it just so happened to be during the bilderberg meeting, Russian Troops were in the U.S. at the Denver Airport in Colorado, training with American Troops, on U.S. Soil. This joint training on U.S. Soil has been a first time in history, if I remember the news and articles correctly.

Both Russia and China are strong allies to and with Iran, so much so, that both have said an attack on Iran or Syria by the U.S. would be an indirect attack on them(Russia and China), and they would respond as necessary.

There are plans, in the near future, for a joined attack with the U.S. and Israel on Iran. Should Israel feel the need to strike early, they will do so pre-emptively, with or without U.S. consent, before Iran has a chance to do anything. And they(Israel) have the power and ability to do so.

Folks, NOT to be a fear mongerer, this may lead to World War III.

Also, look how close we are to elections. Bad economy. American People getting more frustrated, angry, at the course we're taking as a Nation.

The powers that be may be staging foreign troops around the U.S. to help quell any civil unrest or disturbance.

Who knows, something could happen that would cause the government and obama to post-pone or cancel the elections indefinitely.

These are very dark, trying days and times.

Deceit, trickery, sabatage, espionage is rampant.

There have not been days like these since the days of Kennedy and Nixon. Everyone, every agency is corrupt, and will do whatever it takes and is necessary to stay in power, keep their authority, and stay in absolute control of the American Populace.

Talk about propaganda and agenda in entertainment? "Homefront" video game, where North Korea invades the U.S., "Call of Duty: Modern(World) Warfare 3," "The Dark Knight Rises" movie, the new upcoming "Red Dawn" will be out this Thanksgiving, where North Korea invades the U.S., and the 1980's version, it was the Russians that invaded the U.S...

Let me give you one, very good example. Just before the movie "Salt" came out to theatres, guess what happened? About 10 Russian spies were caught on U.S. Soil. Coincidence? It NEVER is. For years, entertainment has been used for propaganda and agenda, even to control the sheeple populace. Hitler did this.

We're being conditioned, softened, and acclimated for what is about to take place.

All of this while the U.S. Constitution is hanging literally by a thread, and the global fascist u.n. is pushing U.S. to give up and be rid of all firearms.

We've been sold out. We've been overrun.

China's been buying lands, and setting up banks in the U.S. Why? Because we are so much in debt. One of the only ways to pay off the debt we(our government) owe China is to sell American Lands.

    We've been usurped.

    These are facts and truths.

    Do the research.

Check out China buying land in Idaho, and in the future, they want to buy Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Check out the u.n. buying national parks.

We're being invaded, NOT violently, yet, mind you. And it's all orchestrated.
