You do know that all those cities have to be close together don't you?

Russia warned US/NATO that if it didn't back off moving closer to Russia... then Russia would move closer to US/NATO.

Please excuse my ignorance, but I don't know about this explosion. If you don't mind, could you show a link to the description of this event. Thank you.

Perhaps this is so, perhaps not. We can also assume that a Russian submarine will be able to destroy an American submarine. And then make a volley of missiles at the selected targets. Is not it? Are you ready to take the risk?

Close is a relative term. For example, the distance between the extreme cities is a thousand kilometers, is that close to you? And we are talking about the same submarine. But what if there are more?

Actually there are no indications that a U.S. nuclear missile submarine has ever successfully been trailed for a significant period of time.

Details of these actions in the book "Blind Man's Bluff" where American and former Soviet submariners met and compared extensive notes on their underwater operations after the end of the Cold War.

I'll put it this way, a single MIRVed missile could drop warheads on Dallas and Fort Worth. That same missile could not drop warheads on Dallas and San Antonio. The idea of a single submarine being able to hit cities hundreds or thousands of miles apart was promoted in the late 1970s by the Carter Admin. which (in an effort to build support for massive cuts in the U.S. nuclear arsenal) promoted the idea that all the U.S. needed as a deterrent was single Poseidon armed nuclear missile submarine (128 warheads).

The Republicans after World War Two began enthusiastically supported FDR in conducting the conflict. In fact after the 1940 election FDR established the custom of a president putting at least one member of the opposition party in his cabinet.

Actually I'm not sure about Biden but I'm pretty sure both Trump and Obama put members of the other party in their cabinets.

First of all, it is unlikely it was “unnoticed”. Second of all, this is a nuclear world.
And having said that war between nuclear armed nations has pretty much turned into a war gaming exercise.
With such a big investment, you gotta let the dogs run now and then.

The consequences are easy. Moscow and Leningrad will burn.

Those bases will become targets for an American first strike.

So are you saying Democrats are good at sending our kids off to die in foreign wars? The Democrats brought us Vietnam and Korea.

As Russia said recenlly... the USA is socially and economically bankrupt.

Many Americans would agree that the USA has become socially [morally and spiritually] bankrupt.

In other words, when a nation destroys its original foundations, it's doomed.

Eisenhower is the one who sent advisors and the first troop to Vietnam.
Korea was a righteous war, Vietnam wasn't.

The US is doing just fine.

    -----------------------------------------------------
Truman sent advisers into Vietnam to help the French.

I as well do not care that the UN did not give approval for the Vietnam War.

I would not say that Security Council approval means nothing to me. But not having their approval is not a deal-breaker for me.

Truman sent the first Military aid and advisors into Vietnam in 1951/1952. The first Combat troops went in in 1963.
