She's what, 86, and beaten the big C three times -- she's got the right to look battle worn.

The US Constitution says that she decides if and when she retires, or dies in her boots.

That doesn’t necessarily mean they are “playing politics”, it may also mean the Republican nominees are more ideological tilted than they would like. Look at the current make up of the bench.

It shows that neither side is wanting an ideology free SCOTUS but one side is much more partisan than the other.
Of course they are going to protest.

We wish her comfort, peace and recovery.

The president said that Ginsburg, 86, is “strong” and “very tough” while speaking to reporters outside the White House on his way to leave for the Group of Seven (G-7) summit in France.

“I hope she does really well. And our thoughts and prayers are with her,” Trump said.

“I’m hoping she’s going to be fine,” he continued. “She’s pulled through a lot. She’s strong. Very tough. We wish her well.”

I’m pretty sure it was an analysis of case law and decisions.

Where would you put him on the spectrum?

Kavanaugh even with Alito, Gorsuch just short of Thomas

So this is closer to how you would place them with the exception of Gorsuch?
I could be wrong but I think Gorsuch has voted more right of center than Kavanaugh or Alito.

I'm sure Trump wishes for a speedy recovery and would hate to have to pick the next Supreme Court justice who would vote for his executive orders.

This is an interesting topic. What is commonly called a "Conservative" Justice is actually a Constitutional Libertarian, and since what Conservative Justices are conserving is American Liberal Democracy, the court is not as ideologically split today as has been in the recent past and EVERY Conservative Justice, joined with the Leftwing Justices as least once.

    Here's the breakdown:

Of the 72 cases this term, 20 were narrowly decided in 5-4 decisions. Notably, the court’s conservative majority didn’t vote together for most of those cases. The conservatives on the bench are chief justice John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh. They agreed with each other on only eight of those 20 matters.

The minority of liberals—Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan, and Sonia Sotomayor—won just as often as their colleagues on the ideological right. That’s because one conservative justice agreed with them on eight other close cases. And in the four remaining 5-4 decisions, the justices did not vote along expected ideological lines.

Gorsuch sided with the liberal wing four times, or in 20% of close cases. Without him, liberals would have won only half as many of these disputed decisions. This not because Gorsuch is not a solid constitutional conservative, it's because he is, and he will side with the Left if he thinks they are right.

There were 10 different alignments among justices in 20 contested cases, which is far more than seen previously.

This indicates that the current bench is quite flexible and that ideology isn’t a perfect predictor of outcomes with the current nine justices.

On the whole, the current crop of justices tend to agree with each other, though some are more inclined to join the crowd than others. Kavanaugh voted with the majority the most, in 91% of cases. Roberts was in the majority in 85% of cases. Yet even those most often in the minority—Ginsburg, Thomas, Sotomayor, and Gorsuch—voted with the majority 75% of the time.

Ginsburg agrees with Roberts, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, nearly 2/3rds of the time. That's better than a lot of marriages.

Justices may be treated slightly different but there have been cases of judges who delegated more legal duties to clerks than what was allowable by law. One judge read about was often out of town, slacking while her clerks were hearing cases and signing the judges name with an auto pen. I don't remember the outcome but I don't think she is a judge anymore.

Not only do some white people believe all Blacks look alike, some of them believe they all think alike as well.

Yet Ginsburg has said very nice things about Gorsuch and Kavanaugh.
