A once great city that used to be a beacon of opportunity and success has been completely ruined. The city is literally covered in human feces, with crime rates rising. However, the local government there is on the case, and very soon, they will be voting on a brand new policy to combat the threats facing the area. If a new city resolution passes, San Fran will get rid of a scourge that has plagued the city for decades and must clearly be eliminated in order for the city to survive, this abomination is.....plastic straws. This is not satire. I honestly cannot understand what the people in that city are thinking or what their decision making logic is here. The entire is overrun with homeless people who are just taking dumps in the street regularly, and somebody there thinks now is the best time to take care of that really pressing issue of those plastic death machines that make drinking from cups a little easier. This is just another reason why I will probably never vote for the Democratic Party in its current state. The fact that the politicians in charge there seem more concerned over a couple of turtles with straws stuck in them than with fact that the citizens in San Fran are drowning in human crap is very odd. Can someone here explain to me what's going on? am I missing something?

Well technically they should be able to work on more than one thing at a time and this law is really a no brainer.

Should be nothing more than a simple quick vote.

California has a very serious pollution problem where the ocean is concerned and while this law would help its not nearly enough, they are doing it for politics.

They should be putting forth a massive pollution bill that tackles all of the issues they are having if they were actually serious about making changes.

there is no bill vote scheduled to tackle the human crap in the street problem, this is scheduled to take place, they are working on banning straws first.

That's why I said they should tackle all of it.

And banning straws is admittedly easier then tackling the homeless problem.

Let the homeless live in all the now empty malls that have rest rooms.

Put out the word that any person found living on the street after 30 days from this notice will be taken to an insane asylum. Homeless problem solved.

During my recent visit to the bay area, I can tell you that plastic straws are the least of their worries. How about making their public restrooms places where you don't have to grab a breath of air before going in to do your business? I went into a bart station restroom that had toilet paper strewn throughout the joint, some grubby clothes in one corner, and it smelled like something had died in there and left to rot for a week in the summer heat. Homeless bums everywhere, crazy people talking to invisible enemies, bums asking for money on the public transport, ticket machines that don't work or simply have the wrong information.

oh, and the people really need to get their heads out of their asses. Everybody is on high alert for conservatives, so they always have some way to figure out where you are on the political spectrum, so they know whether to be friendly, or spit on you. The constant "that Trump is such an *******!" remarks to see what I would say got to be really irritating after awhile. that and the abysmal ignorance of anything that happens outside of their little bubble of geopolitical knowledge (no, Japan and China are not the same country!) makes actual conversation impossible.
