So now that this whackjob has finally realized that married couples prefer not to churn out a dozen babies and so they won't vote for him, non-fundamentalist Christians are also allowed to vote and so on... FOX, CNN and even MSNBC are being nice to him! The gal on MSNBC commented on how he came from obscurity to a position where, for a least a while, he posed a real threat to Romney.

This is the best thing that can happen for Romney. He no longer has to chase Santorum off into the Far Right and away from the voters (like me) who determine elections. If Gingrich stays in and continues his Far Right appeal to the Conservative Base, Romney can actually use that to contrast himself - and gain ground with Moderates and Independents who don't notice he's said the opposite during the previous few months.

Obama has been gaining a lead over Romney during the last two months (he's gone from a .5% lead to a 5.3% lead on RCP Average of all polls). I'll bet this narrows the gap.

So now Romney can gently begin the transition to Mitt-Flop v.3.1 - and go back to The Center and away from that rather inconvenient Right Wing. After all, it's not like Right Wingers are going to vote for Obama under any circumstances, so screw 'em.

Birth Control will become okay again. He will go out of his way to praise women and make sure they know their rights will not be violated under his administration. if he's smart, he might even make someone like Susana Martinez his running mate! Gays, while not being worthy of marriage, will at least be considered human beings. Minorites will be um, well, hmmm. Dogs will be allowed to ride IN the car!

And so it will continue until he is closer to Mitt v.1.1 The Mildly Liberal Centrist. And all the Republicans and Conservatives (with the possible exception of Ron Paul supporters) will vote for him anyway.

As Americans have the memory of a flea, 2012 should be a very close race!

Actually you are part right..Romney held a 10 % pt lead on Obama before the War on Romney began.8 different people all wanting to be the anti Romney..when I asked all along ..

    WHY ?

What was so bad..so evil..so wrong with the Man?
( the fact he was a Mormon ) was the underlining hatred from the beginning.
If that can ever be accepted the nation would elect a Quality individual who didn't put contraception and abortion at the front of his campaign..but one of economic strength.

His is light years ahead of President Obama with family values.. compare the 2 families..history is the record you should use..not political traps of division and diversion.
Compare the record when in leadership positions..Obama has one NOW...see how family values have done under his leadership example and policies.

Use that same test toward economics and foreign affairs.
Killing bad guys is what our military does BEST...a politician should PREVENT that from ever being used in the first place.
NK and its missile test..Iran and its Nuclear threat..China and its expansion in the South Pacific basin...and our gun trade going south with Mexico..most would consider these political failures or at least not GOOD by any measure.

Gas and food prices..Car prices up by 7 % this year alone.. our economy is not improving and inflation is here ..NOW !
We cannot accept 4 more years. :(

What's so bad about Romney can be seen here..

    TOP CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS

    Goldman Sachs $535,680
    JPMorgan Chase & Co $375,650
    Morgan Stanley $323,800
    Credit Suisse Group $299,160
    Citigroup Inc $282,765
    Bank of America $277,850
    Kirkland & Ellis $222,702
    Barclays $221,650
    PricewaterhouseCoopers $191,500
    HIG Capital $188,500
    Blackstone Group $178,800
    Wells Fargo $163,200
    UBS AG $156,550
    Bain Capital $154,000
    EMC Corp $128,300
    Citadel Investment Group $122,125
    Elliott Management $121,000
    Bain & Co $113,300
    Sullivan & Cromwell $107,150
    The Villages $97,500

    He's totally a bankers' candidate. Goldman-Sachs is his #1 contributor..the same Goldman-Sachs that was Obama's #2 contributor in 2008. So, in a match-up between Obama and Romney, Goldman-Sachs wins.

Also of note is that BOA is Romney's #6 top contributor. For an eye-opener on BOA, check out this article, aptly titled "Too Crooked To Fail".

    http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/bank-of-america-too-crooked-to-fail-20120314

Add to that many Romney's FP and Economic advisors are from the Bush team and are largely neo-cons.

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/03/16/us-usa-campaign-romney-bush-idUSBRE82E1BZ20120316

Add to that Romney's recent comments that Russia is our #1 geo-political enemy and what you've got is George Bush version 2.0....only not as smart (is that even possible?). Romney's Mormonism is the least of his problems.

Santorum dropped out of the race mainly because of his daughter's medical condition and she has been hospitalized twice within a month and the media is sympathetic toward his family and his speech yesterday was touching and highly emotional. Santorum impacted the GOP race by rallying the conservative base and Romney was forced to be "severely conservative" to compete with Santorum in Southern states and he lost his standing among independents as a result. Romney would have to move back to the center to woo independents and narrow the poll gap with Obama.
