First your right to own a weapon and then.

Reminder: Australia Does Not Have Freedom Of Speech
Does Australia have freedom of speech?
It's a shame Australian have to visit places like this just to exercise some modicum of release from the tyrannical goons they are told to vote for.. Because expression of political objection "Could" end you up in court or a drainage ditch courtesy of your tougher neighbors!

If he just thanked do the Veteran who gave him a medal and did notbpiss on it I could not would not have said anything.

If Trump did not accept the medal but had a good honest reason not to why and explained that to the giver then ok.

You wouldn't have said anything, but you still don't think it would've been acceptable?

There is still the fear of offending, regardless of how "good" and "honest" someone thinks their reason is.

Any person of terribly flawed and despicable character should never be given the honor of even looking at a military medal.

How do you know so much about Australia? I thought that NOBODY knew ANYTHING about Australia apart from Australian people who live in Australia!

So why did a veteran who earned one give one to Trump?

Mr B Balls, I can tell you from great experience that I am able to say far more and with much greater freedom on Australian Forums than has been my personal experience here.

Further, politicians and public figures are pretty much fair game for anything in Australia. Any other restrictions of FOS in Australia (and yes there are some) really amount to nothing more than protection of common decency (on several fronts) and humanity (on several fronts.)

That is right we do not have a "first Amendment" like you do but I think that is probably a good thing

Too many Americans think they need not defend thier first amendment because it is written down somewhere. We KNOW it is not written down so we have to fight for it every single day and the bloke who tries to take it from us in in for a right royal arse kicking

I guess if you have to continually fight for something as basic as freedom of speech that's your curse, curse as a repressed people.. I can hardly imagine what the aboriginals must endure?

Not a curse but a privilege and up until recently we have been able to point to America as a shining example of what that right really means but recently...................

Because you have this opinion that the standards and behavior that a journalist has is only between them and their employer and therefore you don't have an opinion on it yourself. Clearly you wouldn't apply the same principle to teachers in the US doing the wrong thing by shouting racist hate speech, even though it isn't illegal.

Pretty much the same as your Natives have and are enduring. And.......what Bower Bird said. You guys have no appreciation just how much damage Donald is doing against the US internationally, including in Australia.

I'd have an opinion....but it is irrelevant. We have aggressive journos in Australia (I give you that prick, Richard Carlton) but...that is their job to be aggressive, expected of them by the employer. Those at the sharp end do not exist to massage the ego of a politician, or to drop Dorothy Dixers their way. (Fox News excluded these days.)

It is not a "right" unless you are prepared to fight for it

I have an active thread at the moment about the NRA's attempts to overturn the first amendment in favour of the second

So - as far as I am concerned just having something on a bit of paper somewhere is no assurance at all

Lack of appreciation for something as fundamental as freedom of speech and oppression are two very different things :) What Donny is doing today will not be an issue a decade from now, unlike what Australians have failed to achieve in in two hundred years :) I guess once a ward of the magistrate always a prisoner of the Queen :)

So your idea of "Fighting for it" is hammering text out on a predominantly American forum.. Next time you wonder why Australia has buckled under to oppressive and fundamental rights consider their odd choice of audience LOLOL..
