I haven't seen the videos since I don't use Twitter, but from what I've heard the videos projected Muslims in a derogatory fashion. It is no less of a hate crime than when Griffin depicted that Trump beheading. It seems in the last paragraph of yours, the definition of a hate crime needs revisited:
