    .

The way inflation is now ramping up... before it's over most of us may be subject to that "wealth" tax!

?? Are you that unaware of our tax codes?

People who make minimum wage don't pay taxes.

And, others only pay a PERCENT of their income in taxes, so when they get a raise, it absolutely does NOT all go to taxes.

And, sure. I fully realize that Republicans believe those with low income are at fault. Thus, bein unable to afford health care, pay the rent, be food secure, etc. is their fault.

DAMN those poor people! They DESERVE to be hated by people like you.

We need a bill to impose a special tax on the wealth of Bill Gates. This can be called the Protect Our Farmland act.

No one hates poor people. We just have different beliefs as to how to help. Democrats want to give people more money and believe that poor people are victims of those evil rich people, or worse; the evil white rich people. Republicans want to help poor people become better by learning skills and getting better than minimum wage jobs. I would much rather see people get a job paying $50/hr because they strived to make themselves better than to force McDonalds to pay them $15/hr (plus another $10k in EIC) to keep them poor and ok with their lot in life.

I realize that it takes a lot of work because I walked that road myself. Being poor sucks.

Republicans have NO respect for education. And, when someone can't even LIVE on the wages they get, you want them to start paying for SCHOOL???

What's going on is that corporations pay wages that NOBODY can live on, thus forcing these employees to take benefits from the GOVERNMENT. That support is the REPUBLICAN plan!

You PRETEND you don't want government involved, but you then work HARD to ensure the system REQUIRES there to be a government there to do exactly what you CLAIM you don't want done!!

And, I don't believe I've ever heard anything more bald faced elitist than your comment on how YOU think someone should go about earning $50/hr! You really need to examine what made you say something like that.

The Democratic plan is that people make enough money to live on, and thus can contribute to our economy, not require help just to live. With the freedom that buys, they can find the knowledge or experience needed to earn higher wages.

I was poor, lost my job and had a family. I moved to a small town with a cheap college where I worked for minimum wage, got student loans and went to school. It was hard and I age a lot of beans. Got my degree, got a fellowship at a better school for my masters and then got a job at $60K that has now turned into $140k.

It can be done so don't feed me your crap. I personally know people right now living on minimum wage. Maybe you can't do it where you live but the great thing about this country is that you are free to move about the cabin.

I think it depends, but they can’t just raise prices unless the market will allow it.

Rich people seemed to have supported the Democrats and helped fund their campaign, so my guess is that the rich actually want a wealth tax. Although I think it's a stupid and economically disastrous thing to do, I'm perfectly willing to let the rich have the taxes they voted for. I would recommend that when this comes up for a vote, the Republicans either vote "present' or not vote at all, so it passes with all Democratic votes. A win for everyone!

BFD. The fact that it HAS happened, does not mean that it can happen to anyone.

Not everyone was in your position.

I worked my way through school, too. I drove night cab, because in the small college town there were no night fares. So, I got min wage to sit under a street lamp and study. Then, I worked a day job as well as attending classes.

    I KNOW it's possible.

But, i didn't have kids. I had a solid high school education. I had professional parents who gave me no help, but I could see what was possible - when millions don't. Etc.

I wonder how clever the Walton family is to have their workers’ wages subsidised by the tax payer?

It does surprise me that so many people who are FAR from wealthy vote against taxes that will be paid by the wealthy.

Do you think Texas, and other hard hit Republican states will raise taxes to ensure that people aren't without power, water, internet, heat, etc.?

Or, will they just cruise to the next disaster and hold their hand out to other states again?

The left believes they can cure societal problems by closing the wealth gap when in fact its core liberal policies that degrade culture that leads to societal issues and no amount of money can fix that.

Thats the governments fault. If they didn't subsidize the wages, the employer would have to pay more to get people to work there.

Another example of the governemnt intrusion creating a problem then relying on governemnt to fix it.

    left vs right thing?

it's basically tasking taxpayer-funded employees to conduct audits on the financials of private citizens and if they have "too much money", to take some

tell me how that is a good thing?

Who asked the government to give more money to very rich people because they didn’t want to pay decent wages to their workers?

Pretty sure I never said that was "a good thing". If I'm mistaken, can you point to any of my posts that show that?

    Hilarious!!

So, in Texas infrastructure is considered something you don't have to pay for?

    Maybe that's the problem!

That's EXACTLY what happens in all taxes related to income or wealth.

I'm trying to decide whether your "too much money" thing is stupid or funny.

Oh, wait. You seem to have missd that a significant fraction of infrastructure is paid for through federal grants directed at speciic projects that have been evaluated and meet federal criteria concerning need throughout the USA.

    Remember Trump's Idea concerning infractructure?

His big plan was to tell the states to fund it. And, that bit of crazy was laughed at for good reason.

Well, given a minimum wage of $7.50, I'd say that is NEVER going to happen.

The thing is, we design our systems for those who have money. We love incredible hospitals and despise public health. So, those on the lower end can't afford health.

We love private cars and hate public transportation. So, getting to and from work is difficult.

    etc., etc.

In summary, we design America FOR the wealthy. Then, Republicans are outraged that those who aren't wealthy are having some serious problems paying what wealthy people are willing to pay.
