So what can Trump, a mayor, or any governor do that would lessen the risk to old people that are unable to take care of themselves. The options are limited. Would you support turning the empty schools into quarantined retirement homes? All those over the age of 65 and the needed care providers would be quarantined together with no ingress or egress? You appear to be freaking out and blaming anyone and everyone for a situation that is beyond anyones control.
It is. And unfortunately it won't. Quarantine works best for people who can afford to stay away. Unfortunately thanks to class issues this won't be the case. But it won't matter how long we keep things shut down, if we don't have a cure. If we don't have a cure, then telling people to work when they might die is akin to telling them their lives don't matter. It doesn't matter how much you sugar coat it, it's still telling someone to die for someone else who doesn't deserve martyrdom. Is that something you would advocate for with this? I think that's why I'm neither either. I don't want to fall into the trap of being in one camp and only seeing the world through that perspective. I think that's why I like centrism. It lets me do that.
Where the hell did you get the idea that opening the economy or not is a choice? It is not. We open when we have a vaccine, or a cure, or the conditions allow it.... And not because you decided that old people are expendable. Otherwise the only thing you accomplish is a second wave.... and we haven't even gotten past the first one. Expecting Trump supporters to understand how pandemics work is a useless endevour. So just keep in mind, the people you think are expendable live here in my state: Florida. Where Trump needs their vote or he can kiss the Presidency goodbye. I like the latter part. But I don't want that by them dying.
That's what Trump has been accused of wanting. So he can suspend the elections. But I don't see any benefit for anybody whatsoever in extending the shut down.
There are no options. Only thing that can be done is wait for the experts to find the best way to reopen. Maybe there is a way to open before there is a vaccine. Maybe there isn't. But just ... .opening... with no criteria.... will only extend the crisis and cost many lives. I think that's a dumb idea. I have no idea why you think it's beyond anyone's control.
Nonsense. If you shelter in place how the hell are you going to catch it? If you can catch it while sheltering in place what the hell is the point of the lock down? Politics?
Where did you get 10%? The current number of deaths in NYC as reported by JHU is 18,925: https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html The current NYC pop is 8.77MM according to google, https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=nyc+population+2020&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 Which makes the current death rate 0.2158% or about 2k per million.
Yeah, Gavin Newsom is praising Trump as well - it's how politicians work with a dictator, or as Team T likes to call the office, a Unitary Executive. Remember it when you don't like the guy in office on which ever spin of the wheel it next occurs.
A few but almost everyone else will recover with many not having symptoms at all. But if you feel the need to stay isolated, you still can.
If it's EVERYWHERE...then you aren't safe anywhere. Locking down means over time (not forever by any means) it WON'T be everywhere. You people are putting ME at risk because you want a friggin haircut
Paranoia doesn't look good on you. If it is everywhere then the lock down is pointless. In spite if the lock down ten percent of CA three largest cities have already been infected, so in essence in spite if the lock down it pretty much is every where including likely in CA's umbiqitious homeless population. Same is likely true in New York.
Typical selfish boomer. Stay self quarantined in your house, the rest of us have to get on with living.
Correct. It makes one wonder just what some of these people were taught during their public school years, because apparently none of them were taught how a nation's economy actually works; as in 'If you want to keep your current digs and lifestyle then you actually have to work for a living.'
I'm calculating it as deaths per numbers counted as currently infected. That comes down to 18,925 dead and 174,331 infected. That works out to 0.108, which becomes 10%, and very nearly 11%. Now if you want to calculate it against the known population of New York City instead that becomes 8,500,000 and so it then goes waaaaaaaaaaay down to 0.002 or 0.2% The first way is the way in which most of our leftists like to calculate this kung-flu because it pushes the death statistics up to panic-porn levels; and so I was simply obliging their fetish.
Freedom of choice: if someone wants to take their own life they are free to do so; if someone wants to endanger another's life they are not free to do so.
The growing impression of Trump is that he is perfectly willing to sacrifice seniors on the altar of his reelection. While no one is allowed to enter the White House without a Covid test, Trump is pushing the reopening on others just to boost economic numbers and his reelection chances.
Someone has to be seriously dumb if think this is all about Trump getting re-elected. What don’t you understand about the fact that people have to work to live. wow.
My grandson has taken a liking to this catchy little tune calked Dumb Ways to Die. It begins with There is even a series of animated videos on YouTube. Variations on the original.
Based on the ridiculous assumption that the economy is going to come roaring back.... It's not. How Trump can even think that it would is beyond me. It's just not gonna happen. Yea it will get a LITTLE better...but that's about it.
LOL, stating a fact that older people are more affected and many that died would have died due to illness anyway is not throwing anyone under the bus. I am older than you are and I am not freaking out. BTW, a preview of stats from the UK. Not yet peer reviewed.
I don't know of anyone who thinks there will be a roaring back. But if it keeps getting worse -- soon we don't have a country. There must be some bright spots of improvement soon.
