Ah, you beat me to it! Can you imagine strippers with coin purses attached to their legs?

I do the same. When I come home from work I dump my coins into a huge jar. Every six moths I take them to the bank and exchange the coins for currency. The currency goes to my veteran's organization.

Good for you.... it's a good habit to get into and it adds up fast as the months slip by.....

I used to have $ wrappers and would roll them, then one day when I asked the teller for more, she told me not to roll them - just dump the coins in coffee cans or whatever and it would go faster for them... that works for me too!

Fair enough, but if you were temporarily residing in Mexico, it might be more accurate to put US/Mexico. :)

I save all my coins as well, and notes that I have spare. I take that to the bank every six months, or whenever my jar is full and have it deposited into a savings account. I call it my 'Queensland Account' because every spare penny I have goes toward making the big move up north.

So what is your highest currency? You have $100 notes? Anything higher than that?

not anymore. during my lifetime there was a $1000, but it was rare...and a $100,000 bill that was only used in interbank transactions.

I remember seeing $500 bills once - my Dad bought a new 1969 Chevrolet Kingswood station wagon and paid cash for it. When he took the $$ out of the bank, they gave him $500 bills.

the less the teller has to count, the less likely they will screw it up....and weren't cars in the $2500 range back then?

IIRC, it was a little under $4K for the wagon. It was a beauty of a whaleboat - power steering, power brakes, an air conditioner that was so cold you could almost hang beef in the inside of the car!

We used to road-trip from mid-Missouri to near Ocala, Florida twice a year to visit the grandparents (both sets of grandparents lived in the same subdivision in Florida), and the Kingswood was how we'd get there and back. All the luggage fit in the area behind the rear seats with beaucoup room to spare, and the back seat was HUGE - I could easily sprawl out on the back seat and sleep.

I remember it had a 396 in it, because I used to take the cover off the air filter, turn it upside down, and bolt it back so I could hear the roar of the Quadrajet carburetor when Dad stepped on the gas. Dad, on the other hand, wasn't impressed with the noise - he just wanted a big, quiet, powerful, family station wagon.

This is identical to what we had, same ugly green color and everything --

$2500, $4k..whatever it takes...still it's been a long time since anyone has been able to carry enough money in their wallet to buy a car.

and yeah, you're right-that is an ugly color.:puke:

I think it's a matter of what one is used to. I find that US coins don't feel like real money. They don't make the right sound when they're shaken. US bills don't look right either. They appear cheaply-made like they're from a board game and always look dirty. When I'm in the US, I use my debit and credit cards for most purchases so I don't have cash that I can't use until the next visit.

I can't wait until we get lower denomination Australian-style polymer bank notes here. I've had a $100 bill and a $50. They really don't feel like money yet, but it is cool that you can look through them. That being said, I am not confident I will want to handle Canadian coins and the $20 bill after we get King Charles. He gives me the jibblies.

It hasn't been that long for Canada. We had our own Pound in 1841 and changed it to a dollar in 1857....just sayin'.

The change machine in our break room at work gives out these Sacagawea dollar coins, I didn't realize they were only being offered for a limited time. I'll have to hold on to a few.
