The ancient Egyptian festival celebrated since 2700 years before the prophet Jesus PBUH is celebrated now in Egypt.

This is a tradition where all Egyptians celebrated the day when day hours equaled night hours and we 'smell the breeze'.

For 5000 years Egyptians have celebrated this festival of eating eggs and fish.

When Christianity came they adopted this time as their easter and the ancient date is the same one used by the eastern orthodox christians who have different dates from the european ones. Usually one week later.

So as the Coptic Christians this year are celebrating ( although they are very sad this year as it is when their pope died and they are still in mourning for him) their easter. We all both Muslim and Christian Egyptians remember this day as the ancient pharaonic celebration of eating eggs and fish and beginning of Spring. Muslims dont of course believe the Christian story of the crucifixion but we do remember our ancient history of the pharoahs and their festivals.

Thank you Abu - for this information . Wish I'd paid closer attention to Ancient Egyptian history.

There's a great deal in all peoples past which has saadly been lost/obliterated , its good to hear that present day Egyptians have preserved some customs of your countries rich past.
