Should Americans surrender to permissive firearm laws and increased mass shootings?

I always thought it was 4 or more deceased, not including the shooter, in one location (like a mall or school, but the same person driving to 17 different locations and killing one person each wouldn't), and unknown to the shooter, ruling out domestic incidents. I also think they don't count things like gang violence, though how they would eliminate those I can't say. Makes sense, though, because if your spouse or SO isn't an abuser, and you don't routinely hang out in gang country, neither of those categories are likely to affect a perfect stranger, and thus would not become your problem.

 

You know that part of the DOI where it talks about severing the ties of a people and her government if that government becomes sovereign? Keep in mind, the men who wrote the 2A literally lived through those times, and did not want a repeat. Neither do I.

It isn't it is complemented by it. In the end the only way to prevent mass murder is to make sure that there are always people available who can and will return fire. We passed a law sometime back that makes it illegal to have a gun within so many miles of a school to date it hasn't prevent so much as one mass shooting.

people who make their own personal safety an individual responsibility often accentuate feelings of inadequacy in many gun banners. they seek to ban guns so as not to be reminded of their failings. Of course there are other reasons for people wanting to ban guns. Some sympathize with criminals. Some want an authoritarian government and yes, some actually think banning honest people from owning guns will disarm people who already violate several laws by owning and using guns illegally

 

And some people just want their loved one’s to return safe and sound from school or shopping. And the bullshit you listed never even crosses their mind.

Your likelihood of being killed with an AR - 15 is lower than your chances of being struck by lightning, dying in a car wreck and a whole host of other things you never even think about like slipping in the bath tub. More people are beaten to death and stabbed than are killed with an AR. There is a name for that tendency of people to worry more about statistical rarities than things that actually are a threat to them.

 

yeah as I noted that is true with some people-those who really haven't thought this subject through. And the "bullshit" fills the minds of many gun banners.

 

And there are people who study this issue who state that the the constant caterwauling about AR 15s in the media has caused more than a few nutcases to choose that weapon. The first 40-50 years that the AR 15 was on the market and readily available to private citizens saw no mass shootings with AR 15s. The first case I ever heard of one being used in a killing (and the shooters were acquitted) was when klansmen shot a 5 communist rioters in a confrontation between the Klan and Communists in North Carolina in 1979/ I remember watching a video of this riot as a 1L in Law school. I recall a Klansman getting an AR out of his car but I cannot recall if he was responsible for killing anyone or wounding anyone but I think he did.
