…The YesCalifornia Independence Campaign is an ideologically driven effort to split the state in two. Rather than divide into northern and southern halves, as has been periodically talked about over the years, this campaign proposes to split off 22 of California’s coastal counties. Under the concept, they would form a new country, the Republic of California. The remaining counties, almost all inland, would stay as the state of California and be part of the United States….

…For one thing, the Republic of California would have more people — 22.6 million — and a bigger economy. The sum of all goods and services produced is estimated at $2.21 trillion. This is only natural, given that the population of Los Angeles County would be in the Republic, as would the economic powerhouses of Silicon Valley, Hollywood and coastal tourism.

The state of California, by comparison, would have 16.4 million people and a gross domestic product of $1.5 trillion. Its economy would be powered by agriculture, the logistics industry in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, and national park tourism — the state would retain Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Lake Tahoe.

Marinelli assumes Sacramento would remain the capital for the Republic. For the state of California, he would leave its citizens to pick a capital city. San Diego would be the most populous, but its location at the southern border makes it inconvenient for anyone else.

How about Fresno as a state capital? The central location would be ideal….

Isn’t this the same California exit guy who wanted to take all of Ca out of the union when Trump was president? I support this only so long as both jurisdictions remain as separate states within the United States. If the coastal left wanted to become their own separate nation and tried to leave, I would not support coercion to make them stay. I as an Idaho and Jefferson proponent could live with being a part of this inland state.

It should be noticed that with San Bernardino and the San Joaquin valley interested that the contagion we up far north started is no spreading. Break up Ca but keep both in the USA.

If California splits up or leaves, the US is finished. Other states will want the same options and we would be choosing sides.

I don’t want it to leave. It does need to be split up. It is too big size and population wise to effectively govern its population. It would benefit the country to have more smaller states where like minded control smaller portions and the federal government doesn’t have the power to cram down one size fits all ideas upon either side. That would be better than mass migration of people across the country to be with one group and away from the other.

I agree, but the politicians won't allow a shift in the balance of the senate.⁰

I was referring to the suggestion that part of California become an independent republic. That would start a mass Exodus of other states.

Before it comes up... No, Canada does not want to merge with California after California leaves the USA. But maybe California and Quebec can both leave and then merge :)

1 would support doing to CA like the Dakotas and the Carolinas did; North and South California. That way we get 4 Senators. The dividing line right around Rincon Beach or Summerland. But Jefferson? NO!

No. Any split woukd have to be east west not north south. A deep blue state and a red leaning purple one.
Personally I’d prefer my five county region (Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Shasta, and Tehama) simply join Idaho and leave the rest be.

I agree. I don’t want any state or portion of one to leave the Union.

No. Not interested in a political split, only geographical, non partisan only..

    Sorry.
