Should men carry handbags? I think so.

(I was gonna put this in the 'Gender Issues' section, but I couldn't find it. Mods feel free to move.)

Harry Styles Says Men Should Carry Handbags (infowars.com)

I dunno who Harry Styles is, but I think he has a point. Men should carry handbags. To challenge gender norms. For equality. I can't think of any reason that women should carry handbags and men shouldn't, can you?

Too conspicuous. I carry but I'm concealed.

Its only conspicuous because most men don't carry handbags. Women that carry tend to carry in their purse, but because most women have purses, there's no way to tell which ones are carrying a firearm.

I prefer a lightweight vest with plenty of pockets for wallet, keys, phone etc. A lightweight vest also hides whatever pistol I may chose to carry at the time.

For those of us with chronic lower back pain, please note that carrying a wallet in your right, back pocket only aggravates lower back and hip pain.

So if more men carry handbags, it will no longer be conspicuous.

I don't think that's necessarily true. If you're into or have been into hand guns it's pretty easy to recognize the difference in their design. Also, in the many states where it's illegal to carry without a permit you have to keep in mind that for every cop you see on duty there are usually two that are not on duty. You never know who that is standing in line next to you.

Im not sure we're talking about the same thing... handgun design doesn't have anything to do with handbags. There's plenty of bags women carry that could easily have an accessible weapon concealed, yet everyone knows some do and some don't. If men carried bags like women do, it would be no more conspicuous for a man to conceal a firearm in his bag than it for a woman to conceal a firearm in hers.

True, if men carried purses like women do. The three illustrations with your op, not so true. I had those in mind when I said "too conspicuous".

The one on the left isn't even intended for concealed carry. Or men for that matter. I only included it because I've been thinking about getting something of that style, and I havn't even re-upped my CCW yet.

"...got my pistol in my pocket, I'm Alabama bound...", the only concealed carry mode I find comfortable, and I've got a Wally World worth of holsters for carries that just didn't work for me.

I have a "man purse" it's tanned elk hide. Has a big button for the flap made of a sliced cross section of elk antler. The rivets on the straps are made of genuine buffalo nickels. A decease Korean war Vet gave it to me. GOD rest Jim.

You did make the implication that you were throwing firearms into the equation when two of the three pictures feature handguns. You may not have intended that, but that is what came across.

Oh, no, I am absolutely throwing firearms into the mix :D Capt Nice made a good point that as it is now, its fairly conspicuous for men to carry such bags, being that is uncommon, and its likely to illicit the suspicion that they're carrying something they want to conceal, like a weapon, which might undermine the purpose of concealing a weapon. I think it would be better if men carried bags as much as women, in part, because it would then no longer be conspicuous for them to do so.

I had that design for a while. Loved it. Sadly I wore it out. I got some different designs next. I'll try to post some pics from my phone.

As to the overall idea....A bit of history. There used to be a time when women's clothes had deep pockets in them, but the men's fashions had none. And men carried around satchels or shoulder bags as a means of carrying their stuff. So men used to carry purses, in effect. Aside from my hip pouch, I also carry about a bag I got from ThinkGeek. <--Link!

It's real handy. I keep an emergency set of rain gear in there, my heartburn meds and some pain killer, a water bottle, my coffee cup hangs from a clip on the side, wires and plugs for my electronics, and a few other odds and ends.

Well even without the guns, hip pouches seem to be on an uptick. As are kilts for that matter. And if you are thinking CC, then I refer you to Lazarus Long and the reason he wore kilts most of the time.

I have a kilt. At the risk of a TMI, I can't wear it because for some reason it causes me to chafe in the worst place, even though it doesnt make any sense for a kilt to chafe more than pants. Which is very frustrating, because I love my kilt.

I don't have chronic back pain, but sitting on a wallet gives me chronic ass pain. Its primarily why I only wear cargo pants (wallet goes in leg pocket).

Have you tried some of the modern utilikilts? Is it a material issue or simply a rubbing issue regardless of material? Oh and did you get the Lazarus reference?

Since you have a dress and a purse maybe a garter next? You could put a derringer in your garter.
