So in the era of nuclear proliferation what should Obama do to defend the peoples of America from possible nuclear attack by North Korea or some other incipient nuclear weapons state?

I didn't suggest the DPRK would attack the US in the immediate future. It's unlikely to do that directly even after they extend the range on the Taepodong. Instead, it's going to proliferate weapons technologies to third parties who will ultimately attack the US. Allow me to continue the interrogation.
