When welfare pays better than work

Here’s an offer for you: $38,004 per year, tax free.No work required.Apply at your local welfare office.

The federal government funds 126 separate programs targeted towards low-income people, 72 of which provide either cash or in-kind benefits to individuals. (The rest fund community-wide programs for low-income neighborhoods, with no direct benefits to individuals.) State and local governments operate more welfare programs.Of course, no individual or family gets benefits from all 72 programs, but many do get aid from a number of them at any point in time.

Today, the Cato institute is releasing a new study looking at the state-by-state value of welfare for a mother with two children. In the Empire State, a family receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medicaid, food stamps, WIC, public housing, utility assistance and free commodities (like milk and cheese) would have a package of benefits worth $38,004, the seventh-highest in the nation.

While that might not sound overly generous, remember that welfare benefits aren’t taxed, while wages are. So someone in New York would have to earn more than $21 per hour to be better off than they would be on welfare. That’s more than the average statewide entry-level salary for a teacher...."

$38,004 a year - plus pay no taxes, plus not having to hire childcare, plus free medical care for you and the children. And that is just with TWO children. It is MUCH more with 4, 5, 6 children.

Staying home having babies with no father in the household pays MUCH more than being a teacher or for that matter just about any other job.

I would say they should teach kids in school about this VERY lucrative career choice for which they really have no need to open a school book - but I think most learn this already at home from their mother who already has a lucrative welfare career lifestyle.

When people rage that we don't do enough for "the poor," in reality they are raging that the "poor" are not in the top 1% of income "earners." They aren't POOR at all. In fact, millions make more off welfare than families with both parents working full time.

You pick the most expensive state there is to live in to use as an example of the "typical" welfare recipient? The average paycheck in New York is over 80,000.

I thought you were going to cover Corporate Welfare - where, for example, Exxon gets tax breaks to drill for oil - which is their business

Or, GOP states on welfare from the federal government, where they have to be bailed out to run their state.

If you mean personal welfare, you do know the average welfare recipient is white, don't you? Hate to burst your rant.

That's completely false. Software engineers in New York earn that salary, not blue collar workers.

Or you COULD just post in bold huge type that bragging of being a racist, since my OP never mentioned the race of welfare recipients nor are welfare payments based upon race.

In addition, in terms of percentages of each demographic based upon race, since racism is YOUR thing, white people are not the highest percentage per percentage of population. So not only does your message scream a having a pure racist personal perspective, your message is 100% false. The states that most cry for federal money are Democratic states - California, New York, and Illinois.

By my experience, racists never tell the truth - ever. So no surprise.

Oh, I guess we're talking about low class jobs.

Well in New York a living wage for 1 adult, 2 children is $35.40 per hour. That's a lot more than the... "$21 per hour to be better off than they would be on welfare."
Living Wage Calculation for Bronx County, New York

I chose Bronx New York because it was the poorest country in the state according to this article:

The actual statistic is $38,004 tax free, plus not having to hire childcare.
    What situation?

A single person with no children, no job and no disability and no unemployment. Gonna have a tough time reaching your $40K number on that one.

A single person receiving $40,000 a year from the government would be outrageous.

Welcome to the United States. Most of the welfare in this country goes to the rich, just ask the corporate welfare queen, Crooked Donnie.

Do you math? White people are the highest percent of the population. Yea minorities may outnumber. But it's not like I walk into the bar, see a minority and go, same race boyo. The majority race is white. In fact, to claim that whites are the minority is somewhat more racist simply because you assume that all other races are the same... AND white people are still the highest percentage even then, they are projected to be overtaken by the combined minority races in 2022, but today, they are still between 60 and 70% of the population (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Americans)

And do you math again? The states that cry the most are among the most populous states that so happen to be Democrat? Surprise surprise. And furthermore, that's not even close to true. Highest states are shown very clearly here.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/money...-sheet-states-with-most-food-stamps/21877399/

and if you don't trust that one

    http://aattp.org/its-official-the-s...are-recipients-are-gop-controlled-red-states/

and if you dont trust that one

    http://www.politicususa.com/2015/01...tes-federal-tax-dollars-voted-republican.html

You're probably saying the states who spend the most on welfare. That would be true, more Democratic states do this. But they are richer and more populous states. California contributes the most, followed by New York, PA, Texas; trend is the richer and more populous states contribute more.

Is it American for American corporations to use this country in essentially the same way the British were pre-revolutionary war? You know, where they would sell their finished goods for huge profits while the colonists provided the cheap labor for the gathering of the raw materials and manufacturing and didn't benefit from it?

Pretty sure that started a war.
