I hear a lot of people dissing Skyrim. Some say that it is buggy, I play the XBOX 360 version and can say I have encountered few bugs in my 400 hours of multiple play through. Some say it is repetitive. For me Oblivion was repetitive, but Skyrim has me hooked. Skyrim has more variety then Oblivion. In Oblivion all the dungeons, crypts, caves and ruins were just too much alike. Some say that the story is uninspiring. On this point I am torn. Is the story an amazing epic like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? No, but is it just tacked on and totally useless? No IMO. The story does a good job in moving the game forward and there are tons of side quests... but I do have to say that the story could have been better.

Now with all that said, I think Skyrim is as close to a 10 as you can realistically get. A game like Call of Duty has a 6 hour SP game that is epic. The developers of CoD have a lot of time to absolutely perfect a short game. But Skyrim is a HUGE game in which a single play through of the story and side missions will take you well over 100 hours to complete. The sheer volume of Skyrim would make eradicating every bug nearly impossible.

I'd probably love it, though it may be quite a long while before I find out given the antiqued nature of my current PC. :p

Ya, I hear ya. I have a quad core with a couple gigs of ram and a GeForce GT 430 and I will not even consider playing it on my PC. That is why I like the XBOX 360, no need to upgrade and it plays all the games made for it.

I haven't played it (I have played Oblivion) however I'd assume it wouldn't be up my alley because I prefer quality over quantity. Games that boast about 'how big' their worlds are, or 'how many characters/quests/dungeons/hours of gameplay/etc' they have are usually very generic, and 95% percent of the content is just recycled, - like in Oblivion, every single dungeon looked identical and there was nothing new or interesting to see there - just the same generic monsters, treasures, etc. Oblivion might in theory have over 100 hours worth of gameplay - but when you've played 1 hour, you've pretty much played the whole game - other 99% hours are just the same thing recycled.

The combat was also very bad and winning/losing was really just based on whether or not your character had the right 'level' or equipment - it gave you the idea that you could actually affect the outcome by fighting well, but it really just boiled down to stats. And since the game had a generic story and flat characters there was no real motive to play through it just to experience the plot - a lot of RPG games do have a strong enough plot and characters to make them fun, even if the gameplay alone is a little bland - but Oblivion isn't one of them.

I've never played Skyrim but I don't trust the company enough to buy it based on my experience with Oblivion (I also did briefly play Morrowind several years ago, and my feelings are more or less the same). I also don't trust the reviews on Skyrim either - Oblivion received rave reviews but it was one of the most generic and overrated games I've ever played, so just because game sites are giving good reviews to Skyrim isn't going to make me think it's any different.

A lot of these big name game companies are in position where they can basically just pay for good reviews - since a lot of the sites like Gamespot that write the reviews, are also sponsored by ads for the games. So there's no way they'd ever write a less than worshipful review about a game they're running ads for on their own website.

If you have not tried it, try www.metacritic.com they use many different sources to give a more accurate overall score of a game.

Everybody is different, perhaps the long games are just not your thing... nothing wrong with that. I have noticed that the longer the game, the less the attention to detail, and the more certain aspects get recycled. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was a surprisingly beautiful game and no bugs that I encountered anyway... but at 80 hours in and perhaps just 75% of the way through the game I got bored and quit. It just devolved into a grind doing the same thing over and over.

Oblivion felt empty and uninspiring to me. Skyrim is much better looking and the game world feels much more alive. There are for example tons of caves to explore, but none of them feel the same to me... in Oblivion it just became a boring grind to explore yet another cave that looked much like the last 10 caves that I had explored.

The XBOX 360 version seems stable and relatively bug free... but from what I hear the PC and PS3 version were buggy for many players.

I had a lot fun playing Skyrim...

I need to get the DLC packs still, as I've heard they add MANY more hourse of gameplay...

I had a hard time finding genuine faults in the game...

I guess, if anything, the recycled dialogue bugged me...

I can only listen to someone tell me how they took an arrow in the knee so many times...lol

I liked Witcher 2 more, but Skyrim is above average. You cant treat it like linear RPGs focused on story, its an open world where you have to make your own fun. And the game truly shines with mods!

Depends what you looking in a game , if you are a casual / very young gamer that usually plays shooters or you are not looking for immersion , meaningful choices and character building / progression it may be interesting but for me a fanatic RPG gamer of over 20 years Skyrim as an RPG sucks big time . Yes it is better than Oblivion in any aspect but far far worst than Daggerfall and Morrowind .
Writing is horrible , characters have no character , quests and storyline are a cliché soup , combat is meh , mounted combat is a joke , level scaling is atrocious , magic sucks without spell-making ability , half the NPCs are immortal etc etc . So no this is not a game for an RPGer and it totally disrespect PC owners for stupid console base UI and last century quality of graphics .

If you add tons of mods ( my nephew runs something like 130 ) the game can look better & play better but still there is no way you can navigate with the GPS off since there are hardly any instructions.

I *hated* Morrowind and Oblivion. Morrowind was drab and uninspiring, and Oblivion was sitting squarely in the uncanny valley.

On the other hand, I thought Skyrim was... exemplary. Certainly a well constructed game, and I have utter respect for people who like it.

I prefer my RPG's to be more linear and story based (like the Dragon Age or Witcher games), so I got bored in Skyrim within about 4 hours. Still, I get it - I can see why it is so well loved.

Still prefer Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 3. Both those games are really fun, and I still haven't done everything yet.

I have to agree with you there. It is easy to level up blacksmithing and enchanting very quickly, and if you place all your earned points early on into blacksmithing and enchanting, then you will get killed in combat because your combat and defensive skills will be too low. Also I do miss the ability to make uber powerful rings of flying or unlimited health & stamina regeneration like in Morrowind.

Ya, I do prefer the sandbox games like Skyrim or GTA IV. Dragon Age I loved but the Witcher 2 was good, but not really my thing.

WTF? I have unlimited health regeneration - I crafted 4 pieces of armourwith -25% health regeneration cost (and also 25% reduction in destruction spell cost) and now have unlimited healing and destruction spells

Are you talking about being able to cast restoration spells for free or having your health always regenerating because of an enchant? In Morrowind all I needed was to wear a ring and I would regenerate damage faster than a group of mobs could inflict it.

Just goes to show that even 400 hours in and multiple play through I still have not seen and learned all there is to know in Skyrim. I use enchanting to gain levels but place my points in my combat/defense/stealth/LP trees. I do some basic enchanting of my weapons but that is about it. I am thinking I need to make a straight spell-caster and max out my enchanting tree.

You don't need spellcasting to be a great enchanter at all. You JUST need high enchanting skills. To max out onenchantments you need 100 in enchantment AND alchemy. You use alchemy to make a potion which enhances enchanting but you need enchanting to make gloves, hats etc to enhance your alchemy. You need a few rounds of enchanting then brewing then enchanting again to get the +25% Gloves and hat to get the best potions. I also double enchant those to enhance smithing.

I have a double handed hammer that gives 216 base damage and Lightning and fire damage on top

You don't really need enchanting or smithing unless you play a mage , playing a Breton under the Atronach and having the Atronach perk from Alteration makes you immune (or almost immune) to all kinds of magic damage , dragon breath , diseases , dwemer flame throwers and so on . Then you have to deal with physical damage that can be easily negated with a high armor value , sneaking with range weapons or using a shield , this game is too easy to brake .

In Morrowind you had to level enough to be able to beat Marara (the vampire with the death wish) and get her ring ( 20% reflect damage IIRC) AND add a point to your luck in every level .

In Skyrim I play as a stealthy bow wielding assassin... and after level 20 the game gets quite easy. In Morrowind I played as a straight up warrior... and once I make a ring of perpetual health and another of perpetual stamina the game becomes so easy that it is almost pointless as I literally cannot die unless I take off my ring of flying while a couple hundred feet in the air and plunge to my death.

With that said I do wish Skyrim allowed the God like enchanting that I enjoyed in Morrowind. In Skyrim I just enchant my weapons to add a little elemental damage.

Morrowind had minimal level scaling so at the start you were really weak even to take on rats and at the end you could become as strong as the real Nerevarine should be. In Skyrim level scaling is everywhere and the entire world circles around you , it is mostly a game for children ... ( if you have played Daggerfall you would remember that the temples of Kynareth were full of naked whores :p )

i liked sky rim random dungeon diving can get a bit stale but i don't expect a story attached to each one and some locations have fun little extras

have the p23 version had the bug where the save file kept getting bigger and slowed and crashed the game and glitches and crashes happen

but iv had a lot of fun got the dragon born dlc as soon as it was available but only had a couple of days with it before i had to leave my ps3 to go on a trip cant wait to get back to the game

espeshily now that i can respec my characters if i beet dragon born

want dawn guard if only for the dragon bone weapons

my biggest complaint for oblivion or sky rim is getting stuck inside some place where you cant fast travel
