Most of the chores are done, so don't have to go back out into the heat. Really feel for you guys who aren't used to these temps. I can relate because of a trip to NYC one summer. Who knew you people don't know about REAL air conditioning!? Ya might walk into a store up there and feel a little difference from outside, but 5 min later, it's so hot, you can't breathe. But here... you take a sweater... restaurants, trains, movies, BARS, offices... everyplace is ice cold. It's a given.

Thought I was gonna die in the Hilton Hotel right there in the middle of Manhattan. Had to open the windows to try and get a bit of cool air. Never been so hot and uncomfortable in my life.

Youse guys are nuts. Buy yerselves some winder units!!!! [IMG]

Thx for the weather report, Viv -- LUV IT!!

Sorry you folks are gettin soaked. Maybe listening to us (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) & moan about the heat will make you feel drier!

Yeah, I noticed on one of the pics Ceny posted... most people there wear some kinda boots for trudging thru the mud. Few Texans own hiking boots and cowboy boots aren't designed for wading thru mud & water.... or especially snow. As my friend learned when he wore his cowboy boots during a snowstorm in Baltimore and the first time he stepped in a drift and it filled his boot... he was done walking in the snow.

We adapt to our environment, don't we? God's plan at work! ;)

Traveled to a third world country one time and had to use one of those, it was nasty you could see everything in the hole and had to use newspapers for toilet paper.

    Texas?

When I was a kid, my aunt & uncle had one. All I could think of were spiders. ~shudder~

Yeah, we've evolved to porta-potties now where you rent pretty fiberglass boxes and buy chemicals to keep everything pleasant. Not like the good ole days when all you needed were a few boards & a sears catalog. LOL

they probably still have some parts of the US like the very rural areas that still use them because they don't have plumbing idk.

for instance on fox news during the big storm people in west virginia couldn't use their well water because they lost electricity and had to walk down to the creek to fill up bottles, not something usual for america

So sad, those persons need dbl. foodstamps.

Seriously, that is very unfortunate. I felt for persons living in the devastated are. Including you. ;)

Honestly, I am a bit surprised that more elderly didn't succumb to the relentless heat, during the time of no electricity. Thank God.

Cooling stations were set up, shuttles ran back on forths, people were sheltered and fed as need arose.

As for the wells, many rural residents have their own private wells, most prefer it over city water. Doesn't mean people don't have plumbing, just that wells run on electricity. When the power goes out, there goes the water.

agreed on the news they said they went to the creek for water because they needed it for the toilets so i assumed they had plumbing and were only using well water as something for voluntary purposes.

A beautiful voice, silent now, but remembered.

For those of you that may not know, just a short time after the release of this recording, Eva passed at the age of 33 from melanoma.

Amazing, I was 100% convinced she was Scottish for some reason. Maybe because her music did nothing until it was picked up and popularised in UK.

I thought she was from Paisley

    Good Afternoon Viv!

Interesting isn't it? Unfortunately, she never really knew how well her voice/talent was received. Sadly, it seems as though she was followed throughout her short life by unfulfilled moments.

    *sigh*

I looked at photographs of Paisley, quiet stunning. Is that your home?
