I need to find a good, healthy snack for my dogs that they will like.

What kind of treats do your dogs like?

Btw, I have two Chihuahuas and a Jack Russell.

No rawhide like treats. If your dog swallows one, it may be toast.

My dogs like popcorn if I put the white cheddar or garlic salt/topping on it. They all like those pupperoni sticks. Some treats some dogs like that others I have do not. One dog will eat most anything and the others are more selective. You just have to shop around I suppose.

I tried giving them Milkbone dog biscuits, but only one likes them. They do like those bacon-flavored treats and the pupperoni sticks.

I didn't know it was okay for dogs to eat popcorn.

Since many dogs have allergies, especially to grains like wheat, corn and soy, I feed mine grain free dog treats of different varieties. We found in a German Shepherd that she had seizures traceable directly to wheat (trial and error used to confirm) and they were severe seizures that lasted up to 15 minutes each. Once wheat was removed she no longer had issues. But once we removed the wheat we realized another dog no longer got ear infections, no longer chewed on his paws, and the yard was nowhere near the mess to clean up. It's not as inexpensive to feed them grain free food and treats, but they'll be much healthier and will likely shed less. Not sure if chihuahuas shed much or not. I have a Jack Russell mix and she doesn't really shed.

    Thanks for that tip.

I was considering buying them those new Milkbone dental biscuits that are supposed to clean their teeth, but I'll check the ingredients first.

Make your own. Plenty of recipes on the web and you can adjust to pet appropriate size.

I recently bought a bag of Yummie Chummies at my local Costco. They are made from Alaskan Salmon, here in the USA. My dogs love them, and they are good for them.

Domestic and feral cats, kittens in particular, make good snacks for dogs. You can grow your own or trap feral cats at most city parks and wooded areas around town.

My dogs love popcorn--or I should say topping held in place by popcorn. The internet says it is safe so it has to be true (though the PC pet crowd says you should only use unbuttered airpopped) ;) We have a dog that will sometimes eat bananas.

You would think so, but a couple of my dogs are afraid of the feral cats. I need to send them to a camp to toughen them up or something.

You're supposed to cook them first.

Not only can you trap them in city parks and wooded areas, but hundreds are given away each day. Check the classified ads of your local newspaper.

Beggin Strips. Those comercials don't lie lol.

However they are not healthy snacks, so I hold them in reserve as a special occasion treat.

if I'm eating my dog figures it must be better than the expensive dog food in his bowl, so everything I eat becomes the treat he must have...the exceptions being licorice and bananas...
