Payroll tax cut has no support on either side and won’t be in phase 4.

Even IF payroll tax would be cut, there would be no SS benefit cut. If there were, Trump could kiss his re-election chances goodbye. Retirees vote by a significant margin Republican. They like their government benefits, while at the same time hating the dreaded gubmint. We have many of those on the forum. I could name names, but that would probably get me an infraction.

7.65% cut benefits you the more money you have right?

    300 x 7.65% vs 3000 x 7.65%

It will just be funded by other taxes. Payroll taxes are more regressive than Federal taxes and the point is to make sure working Americans have a little more disposable income to navigate COVID.

If businesses withhold less money to send to the government why does this make big business happy? This is money that is earned and then taken out of employees check. Even matching withholdings is really part of your compensation package from your employer along with health care. Are the employers some how keeping withholdings from employees and not sending them to the government? This is why there should be no withholdings taken out of anyone's pay check including matching. All salaries should be payed to the employees and every month every citizen should then have to send a check to the government just so every person knows how much they are getting screwed. Being self-employed and writing only one check to the government i know what my income tax burden is.

What is with liberals and doxxing/shaming? Wouldn't you guys be happier back in Salem where you could do proper witch trials? This is one of the reasons that it so dangerous to give liberals any kind of power. I think it is the biggest character flaw on the left and it is horribly destructive.

I thought the idea was to help those most hurt by Corona and from everything I've seen it's people making less than 40k so why would you give the money to an intermediary hoping they'd give a little to those most hurt when you could directly help those most hurt...

If your making less than 40k a payroll tax cut translates to like 8-20 dollars per paycheck.... Sooo basically nothing

Get a job that makes more then. What do you want? Do you want the government to send even more money out to people who are not doing anything?

IMHO, if payroll tax is cut to put more money in people's pocket than SSN should be increased the same amount to do the same thing.
