Some people are so very 'certain' they KNOW what becoming or being "gay" is all about (imagining they know whether or not it is chosen). In reality, sexual-orientation really isn't so clear... even to STRAIGHT folks.
Thats a great video. Not sure if the question is fair to women though. Everyone knows that all women are bisexual...it is just a matter how how drunk they need to be to cross over.
The bigger question is why would anyone choose to be a sexual orientation that is well known to make your life more difficult due to the homophobia and stereotypes propagated by society? The reality is no one chooses this for themselves.
Exactly. I came out during the Reagan 80's. That was no party. Because of AIDS, it was open season on us. Not even the police would help if we were attacked back then. They'd just laugh and say we deserved it. It was not a good time at all, trust me.
Any number of reasons. Attention is a big one. There are social scenes where being gay is seen as an asset. While I don't think it is reasonable to think ALL gays are gay by choice, given the evidence, I can understand why people often believe that. For some people there is no such thing as bad attention.
You've got to be kidding. - - - Updated - - - I would, but then I read crap like in post #7, and it makes it pretty difficult.
The whole question of why people are gay is a fascinating question from an anthropological sense. The usual stimulus for who we are, genes, environment upbringing etc carry absolutely no identifiable correlation with being gay. So from a science point of view understanding the factors will be a great leap forward for us understanding how the mind works.
Of course!! And that is why within the last 2-3 years... I've become far less tolerant of people who dehumanize homosexual people in various ways.
It's who we are... not seen as being some acquired "asset". Please. Ever met anyone who chose to be "straight"? (I'm not talking about where sexual acts are concerned... but where their sexual and romantic 'attractions' are set.)
Yeah. That's why people are gay. so they can go to a party. then get beat up in the parking lot afterward, fired, ostracized by family, harassed at home, and denied benefits. Being gay is just one big happy party.
Yes. Lots of gay people try to be straight by choice. They may or may not succeed, but their desire is clear. - - - Updated - - - You will not be ostracized or harassed for being gay at a Goth party. Lots of people like being depressed or feeling put upon. Not saying it is a majority, or even a significant minority, but they obviously exist.
Where are those who go "gay" by choice? I think that would be VERY rare if ever (for someone to literally alter their sexual attraction). I'm certain that science backs me on that.
Never met any goths have you? There are social scenes where being gay is seen as an asset, not a liability. I agree. But for bisexuals it is probably a lot less difficult. I agree real bisexuals are uncommon at best.
Okay interesting exception; but I never heard anything about them. Name one other than the "goths". I'm not aware of those "scenes". Certainly, it is all very complex.
Let me be clear. I am straight. I have many close friends who are gay and lesbian and I volunteer on two pride societies. Sometimes gay and lesbian IS a choice. Sociological studies have documented many cases of men choosing a life long relationship with another man because they simply do not understand and cannot handle women at an emotional level and vice versa with women. And there are many cases where there is no other explanation than they were born that way. My response to to quote Hillary deliberately out of context: "What difference at this point does it make?"
I'm missing the "choice" aspect here. If one cannot handle the opposite sex on an emotional level, how in the world is that a "choice"? And is this something new? Because I've been on this Earth for 46 years and have never heard of such a thing.
