http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/12/28/battle-over-voter-id-laws-heats-up-in-states/ This couldn't have said it any more clear. The democrats are quoted saying that requiring ID at the voting polls diminishes poor people's participation in the voting process. This clearly proves a point that the far majority of the Democratic voter base are the lowest class or non-taxpayers who simply vote to leech off the working class more or are illegal immigrants. An ID simply proves you are who you say you are and that you are a American Citizen. Anybody who is against showing ID at the voting polls is either: A) Stupid B) Wants illegals and/or non-taxpayers to vote or C) Is corrupt Also on a side-note the person who said "I think this is an effort to diminish minority and poor people's involvement in the electoral policies and politics," said Dick Harpootlian This is a classic representation of the Democratic Party. Poor people should have an ID if they are American Citizens. The only conclusion any person can come to if you disagree with showing ID at the voting polls is that they WANT illegals to vote... If you have any other explanation please...present it.
Okay then, if the dems claim that, why don't the republicans offer something to end this debate, and emerge as "victors"? Why don't they have manadate voting instead, along with the voting Ids?
This is democracy and voting is the duty of each citizen, if you suppress votes - it is not democracy.
Compulsory voting ensures a large voter turnout. This means a victorious candidate or party clearly represents a majority of the population, not only politically motivated individuals who would vote without compulsion. This helps ensure that governments do not neglect sections of society that are less active politically. Victorious political leaders of compulsory systems may claim a higher degree of political legitimacy than those of non-compulsory systems with lower voter turnout.
I would prefer an informed voter turnout. Voters who are responsible enough to do things like get a photo ID that they would need for many other things anyway.
When you complete a voter ID registration, don't you already have a voter ID, inorder to fill out all of it and be able to vote?
So if I say that it is not there and therefore my argument is invalid you will admit that people shouldn't show IDs since your argument is as strong as mine?
I don't think voting should be mandatory...however, if you DO vote, you better show an ID or proof that you are a Citizen and can legally vote.
I may not be the foremost expert on the subject of voting, but don't you require some sort of ID when you complete the voter registration form?
