That crazy Austrian did it. Highest manned ballon flight and highest free-fall jump in history.

He may have broken the sound barrier during fall.

Saw the whole thing on the Discovery channel. About 127,000 feet above the earth. He took off in Roswell New Mexico. It went off without a hitch...except his visor fogged up during his fall.

I find it cool that the guy who held the record was the one who helped him break it.

He did break the speed of sound!
    From The Washington Post
Felix Baumgartner has traveled faster than the speed of sound, achieving Mach 1.24 — 833.9 miles per hour. He did so after falling from 128,120 feet above sea level. This means Baumgartner is the first human being to travel faster than the speed of sound without being inside a craft.

From what i have read (a Maxim mag I think), he holds the record for highest base jump, lowest base jump, and flew across the English Channel in a carbon fiber suit.

The lowest base jump was from the hand of Jesus on the statue of Jesus in Reo....95 feet.

Even though he is from Austria he IS an American hero...we love him over here. He has marbles of steel.

He said it was his last jump.

I watched the video of that. I would have been scared out of my mind. Good grief, how the hell did he summon the guts to jump?

Believe it or not but I think I'd have an easier time jumping from space than jumping from a plane. Doing it from space is just so surreal that I don't think I'd register it as height.

Not a space jump. Not even close to being a space jump. This is why I hate the media.

Space is 100km (62 miles). This guy jumped from only a little over 1/3 of that distance.

Exactly! And every time he jumps he increases the risks. he probably knows if he keeps it up it will eventually kill him.

Lighten up dude! It was a fifty year old record and the atmosphere was a .01 bar. It was also the record for highest balloon flight.

And yet when someone climbed up 1/3 of the way up Everest they didn't declare the mountain climbed and call it a day.

What are you, 10 years old or something?

It's not considered space because no one else has jumped that high.
