They/many will do the work if it means eating and dumpster diving ;) As long as the gubmint rewards this sort of behavior they wont.. Sometime you have to spur a horse to get it to move, same goes for lazy people..

This is BS...people who truly wish to work will work...those who don't wish to work never will. In our area white or Anglo people will not work 8-12 hours a day doing farming work! We 99.9% depend on migrant labor...and we're very pleased with this arrangement...

So do you employ whites/ Americans, legal migrants or undocumented?

So you contend that $25 dollars an hour isn't inviting to a homeless person? Well that's sort of odd wouldn't you agree

Knock-knock...there are NO whites or Anglos who will do this work!
We seldom know the precise status of immigrant labor, but no matter, due to extreme shortages of labor, we must hire anyone willing to do the work...

I don't care why whites or Anglos refuse to do farm work; I must focus on having labor in place to achieve our needs and goals...

Really? Why is that? Twenty five bucks an hour OR living in a tent and eating dumpster food is preferable ;)

Then again you haven't told us WHO you primarily employ and in what area of the country ;)

I'm not going to discuss why various people will or won't do certain jobs? I will discuss extreme labor shortages in farming...

Really? Do tell? Isn't it the your premise that we cannot take any and all refugees? Whatever happened to your "we need only educated and skilled people" here? I know that is Trump's premise. Be honest now.

So how did we (in my country) get people to do it? They're ordinary First World citizens, just like Americans. Spoiled and 'lazy'.

Our ag workers have always been locals. A few specialist industries attracted certain groups (Italians in sugar cane, Vietnamese in market gardens, etc), but these groups actually owned the farms.

But it wouldn't. You would simply have to up your hourly rate and perhaps provide accommodation/meals etc. You'd be turning away students, European backpackers, and grey nomads before you know it.

Yes they will. They do it all over the Western World, except in America. You guys have some strange dynamic going on which needs fixing, if you hope to be self-sufficient.

Makes no difference what happens elsewhere...in my area and most of the US, so-called Americans refuse to do lots of hard work jobs...

We barely make profits in the current business model so any idea of greatly increasing wages and providing accommodation/meals is not possible. Besides, money is a negative motivator. If we could offer $50/hour people will show up but either quit or die by lunch time...

I suspect when Americans have choices of non-farm jobs, or even no jobs, they simply don't need to do farm work...

That makes no sense. We manage it, and many of our ag businesses are very successful. Other countries also manage it. Why would yours fail, when the same business dynamics are applied? There is clearly something wrong in the way you're applying the model. I suspect that the key is in your pricing. To give you an example, recently I was reading some American cooking blog, and the writer mentioned buying grapes at something like $2 per kg (the equivalent, in lbs). Even when grapes are at their cheapest here, they're $4 per kg, and run as high as $12 per kg out of season. The blogger also bought a large bag of chicken breasts for something like $8. The same would be $20 here. A single rump steak here can be $10+. Anyway, you get the picture. Your meat and produce is ridiculously cheap compared to the rest of the First World.

Weird. I mean, it's not harder than any other physical outdoors job. It's actually easier than some, AND pays better than most (given that free accommodation). I can't see why those in need of fast money, or students and travellers etc, wouldn't love those jobs. We even have waiting lists of people wanting to do seasonal ag work. Is it REALLY the work itself which stops them?
