It's just a weather anomally (most likely surface wind related) causing a belt of what seems to be 'invisible' water where the ship is. Anyone who's spent time on water sees this kind of thing regularly.

The dark blue foreground is actually sand, not water. The lighter blue beyond and in the middle of the photo is actually the sea upon which the cargo ship is floating. The lightest blue at the top third of the photo is sky. So it's all appropriate.
You may wish to defend arrogance coupled with ignorance, but I have no stomach for it. That sort of crackpot nonsense is precisely what destroyed the country.
