CGI images prove absolutely nothing other than what's in the imagination of the creator.

    Next question?

Look, I'm not the least impressed nor interested in Wiki entries which have probably been submitted by NASA personnel. To address your specific comments: I'm perfectly aware of the awesome forces of nuclear bombs, but that is secondary to the salient point of the topic, viz. the odds of an asteroid big enough to knock this planet of ours off its axis, and hurtling around in the infinity of space, should by pure chance adopt a trajectory which will visit such an event upon us, whereas there are so many other potential catastrophes waiting in the wings which are a million times more likely.

The site has a forum for conspiracy theorists;science is not your forte.

That is a propulsion system, not a fuel.

Nuclear power probably makes the most sense.

Well this forum is certainly the right one for impressionable adults who believe everything they're told with childlike innocence. But then I used to believe everything I was told as well, so don't take my critiques too seriously, because we all go through phases of one kind or another until we realise we were wrong. Or not, as the case may be.

You can make a working Ion drive engine suspended from its power supply lines.

Oh ffs. Xenon then? Iirc, ion drives can use xenon as fuel.

    Your posts make no sense.

A space probe takes a picture of the Earth and it's Moon and you somehow correlate that with humanities destruction.

    But whatever.

Ah! With a nuclear powered reactor.

I thot the benefit of ion drive was that most of the propulsion came from solar power electrically ionizing inert gasses, decreasing mass of necessary stored fuel.

In fact, just lodging a satellite adjacent to the object will change the course of that object due to gravitational attraction.

If found early enough it probably wouldn't be necessary to change the object's trajectory by much.

It's useful to have some idea of frequency and magnitude of a threat before spending money on it.

It's clear that being struck by some space object is a low odds but high impact type of event.
