Sudanese government has renewed its call to reduce the UNAMID forces after the considerable improvement of security and humanitarian situations in Darfur as testified by the UNAMID officials themselves several times in the last few weeks. Foreign Ministry Undersecretary, Rahmatallah Mohammed Osman told the visiting British delegation chaired by the UK official in the UN permanent mission to direct the UNAMID resources for development, capacity building and the main infrastructure in the region, stressing the importance of designing early refreshment programmes to preserve the current stable situation. The visiting delegation was acquainted on the steps taken by the government to implement the DDPD. On her part, the head of the visiting delegation said that their trip includes visiting Darfur States to see on the ground the steps taken to reduce the UNAMID forces. Meanwhile, Osman expressed Sudan's readiness to provide all the required assistance to the independent human rights expert who met with him yesterday. The meeting discussed the preparation of the technical and capacity building forum which will take place by the end of this week in Khartoum to design a roadmap for attracting the support and provide the implementation mechanisms with the participation of the concerned parties. Osman affirmed that there is considerable improvement in human rights situations in Darfur, adding that such improvement was not reflected in the human rights reports which were prepared by foreign parties, stressing on the importance of technical assistance to overcome the shortcomings in the laws and practice.
