Go ahead and eat some raw coffee beans and see if nothing needs "artificial sweetener". Splenda is an artificial sweetener. Sugar is not. Adding sugar to something is just as good/bad as adding salt or pepper to something. Just because its sugar doesn't mean that it is necessarily bad. You cant blame sugar for the obesity epidemic. Every person on this earth is unhealthy. Why? because agriculture cultivates only about 4 staple crops that do not supply a variety of nutrients that hunter-gatherer humans are supposed to get. So if anything, blame the Agricultural Revolution for obesity. But not sugar.

Hummingbird nectar is recommended to be one part sugar to four parts water.

I wont disagree with that, but what I am saying is that a little sugar in your coffee isn't going to kill you, nor is it the cause of the obesity epidemic. Sugar, is, indeed, a natural sweetener, its Splenda and that stuff that isn't. We need less refined sugar for sure, but you cant label it as any specific cause of anything

If the only sugar you got was a little sugar in your coffee you'd be fine but sugar, especially high fructose corn syrup is added to virtually everything these days and you consume staggering amounts of the crap which causes a myriad of issues with cascading effects throughout the body.

"The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports that the average American consumes anywhere between 150 to 170 pounds of refined sugars in one year"

"Sugar is hidden in so much of what we consume every day. Sweeteners such as high fructose corn syrup can be found in:

    barbecue sauces
    breads
    canned-fruits
    cookies
    crackers
    frozen dinners
    hot dogs
    ketchup
    marinades
    peanut butter
    pickles
    salad dressing
    soup
    vegetables
…and several other food products. Sugar surrounds us.

It is not only a drug, it is a poison too

sugar is poisonSome classify refined sugar as a drug and poison because it is depleted of its life forces, proteins, minerals and vitamins. Too much sugar is harmful to the body and promotes inflammation and disease"

Too much of anything is bad. High fructose corn syrup is also something we shouldn't really be allowing in our food. Sugar is much healthier, but when we use too much refined sugars like high fructose corn syrup we have problems.

I's love to see a study regarding levels of various illnesses or deaths during January & February in comparison to the other months of the year. Going on the theory that people get sick due to all the excess sugar consumption during the period Nov 27th through Jan 1st.

I have heard that doctor's visits for kids increase dramatically right after Halloween due to all the excess consumption of candy from Trick or Treating. I heard that on some radio talk show, but only wish I could document the study or who said it.
