Here are two completely new Star trek videos. The first: The second: While i thought Into darkness was a decent film, I was mostly disappointed in it because it was too predictable to me, and it didn't have the power that The Wrath Of Khan did for me. All Abrams did was rehash an old story and turn it around a tiny bit. And so, I thought that if all he was going to do was rehash old stories, then i was pretty much done with Star Trek. And that's saying something for me because I am a big fan of Star Trek in all it's incarnations. I really didn't see any real need to do the old stories over again. It is my fervent hope that these two videos ARE truly about the next film. It has revitalize my inters in seeing the next film, if it is going to do something complete new. Oh, it does have two Star Trek alumni, Tony Todd and Gary Graham of Alien Nation TV series reprises his role of the Vulcan, Soval in the prelude. I don't know if he'll show up in the next movie. Tony Todd played Worf's brother Kurn and Jake Sisko in the episode "The Visitor". His movie credits also includes The Candyman. So, I am really hopeful that the next Star Trek film will go on to do new things. If so I will definately see the film.
The Prelude to Axanar was actually one of the best "fan" films I have seen. While that isn't saying much in itself as 99% of fan films are complete and utter crap it was actually very well done even compared to professional films. The special effects were done by a company that does movie effects so they are actually really good considering the budget. They are making a full length feature and I believe they already raised the necessary funds on Kickstarter.
Most fan films have film TV show actors in them. Being in Star Trek does not guarantee you jobs on the future and most of those actors end up taking bit parts in B movies and stuff. By fan film that simply means that it was put together by fans of the series and not by actual film and television producers. They can utilize professionals like the special effects company in Axanar. Prelude to Axanar was funded by Kickstarter and not by a studio which is how typical TV shows and movies are funded.
By raising a (*)(*)(*)(*)load of money through Kickstarter. Paramount has given permission for fans to make Star Trek movies as long as they don't profit from it.
