This was not done due to some deliberate policy and was not universal. We still have no problem identifying a person by their gender and we should not have a problem with it. Environment certianly influences people but in the debate of nature vs nurture nature is winning. In fact more and more we see that the environmental influence on gender ( nurture ) is in fact merely a reflection of how nature defines us. The loopy notion that you harm kids by identifying them by gender needs to stay in sweden.

I don't see anything wrong with that. What could be simpler than saying "Good morning class" ? Why would kids need their sex pointed out to them in school ? Unless they're going to HAVE sex it's not relevant. Here in the US I know of a teacher who kept up the antiquated habit of lining up her students according to sex. There is no reason for that and she had to be corrected , it has something to do with Title 7 (or 5, I can't remember),...you can't discriminate with federal money. Kids should be in school to learn, to EXPAND their minds, not shut them down with ignorant sexual stereotyping. Teachers should think of the kids as STUDENTS, not male and female....and the world would be better for everyone. How would it go over if a teacher divided her lines or her students in anyway related to race??? Black kids on the left, white kids sit on the right.....is THAT acceptable.
