It appears that the Syrian government and the Russian military are making substantial gains in their counter-strike against ISIS and AQ in Syria. A monitoring group is even reporting that three senior members of AQ (al-Nusra is the primary AQ affiliate in Syria) were killed in an air-strike. Perhaps they were part of the "moderate" AQ faction that former US general and spymaster David Patreus was suggesting the US government provide aid to and not those mean old extremist AQ that killed 3,000 Americans on 9/11. Either way, you can bet there will be some westerners very upset by the death of their pals in AQ. Who else is going to overthrow the Syrian government for them?

Nothing to be concerned about. The rebels are currently being replenished with vital weapons (e.g TOWs) that have proved most effective against the regime.

I'm just curious what will be the response if Russia and Syria succeed in retaking the territory and defeating ISIS and AQ. Will all the Russia-haters jump for joy that ISIS and AQ have been pacified in Syria? Or will they just try to sweep the entire sordid mess under the rug like they did with the Iraq and Libya debacles? How many more countries do these neo-cons have to destroy before they are no longer taken seriously? I know janitors who have been fired for much, much less than the wholesale destruction of three countries.

Oh, I'd be very concerned if I were an ISIS or AQ terrorist in Syria. Russia is a first-rate military power and they are deadly serious about crushing this rebellion.

You mean Sunni extremists who are virtually indistinguishable from ISIS and AQ?

Yea, let's hand over advanced anti-anticraft systems to a bunch of amorphous Islamist rebel groups. There is no way that could ever backfire on Americans or westerners in general.

But something tells me that even TOW missiles in the hands of the Islamist rebels are not going to have much of an effect against the Russian military. It's usually standard procedure for special operations to coordinate air strikes with the pilots, meaning any rebel in the area will be vulnerable to Russian Spetsnaz. A TOW won't do them much good with a Russian sniper round through their head.

Uh-huh. That's what they said about Afghanistan.

Call 'em whatever you like. Westerners think that any fighter with a beard is an evil extremist, so....

I specifically said "against the regime". However, I welcome Russians to actually engage on the ground. They'll meet the same fate their Persian brethren are meeting.

I picked this up from Voltairenet. It seems that to everyone's astonishment, the signal jamming system that Russia is using in Syria, has rendered Nato deaf and blind. Mind you that ten days before, ex Sec. of Defense Gates and ex Nat. Security adviser Rice were saying the Russian army is a second rate force. Who knows what else Russia has in store, and that hasn't been used yet.

The neo cons and liberal hawks are furious, and they want a relaunch of the military budget, and even stopped the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. Frankly I think they should be sent to the front lines with a red bulls eye on their chest.

Anyway from the official communiqués and officers it's concluded that at least 5,000 jihadists have been killed including leaders and that at least 10,000 mercenaries have fled to Turkey, Iraq and Jordan. The Syrian Army and Hezbollah have managed to capture the areas without reinforcements from Iran.

Here are a few excerpts from the very in depth analysis by Voltairenet:

The satellites, planes and drones, ships and submarines, tanks and now even the combatants themselves, are all connected to one another by a system of permanent communication, which enables the Chiefs of Staff to oversee and command the fighting more efficiently. It is this entire system - NATO’s nervous system – which is presently being jammed in Syria and part of Turkey.

Russia has used several new weapons, like the 26 stealth cruise missiles, equivalent to the American RGM/UGM-109E Tomahawk . Fired by its fleet in the Caspian Sea – they reached and destroyed 11 targets situated at 1,500 kilometres distance, in the non-jammed area – so that NATO could appreciate their performance. These missiles crossed Iranian and Iraqi air space just four kilometres away from a US drone. None of them were lost, compared to US missiles, which have a margin of error beteen 5 % and 10 %, depending on the models.

At the same time, this salvo demonstrated the waste of the incredible sums of money spent on the useless « anti-missile shield » built by the Pentagon around Russia –even though it was officially intended for protection against Iranian launch sites.

That was a different time with different capabilities and organizing schema. Russia's military has advanced significantly since then. And they certainly aren't using the same strategies and tactics. They are using modern warfare doctrines and defeating the TOW system has been one of their highest priorities for years.

Compared to the people they're fighting, they absolutely are extremists. And compared to your average westerner, they are downright primitive in their outlook. But I'm not against them having their own backwards society where they treat women like farm animals and dismiss science as some kind of devilish conspiracy. I'm just against them receiving assistance from the US government, because I don't want my tax dollars being wasted on foreign rebellions that have nothing to do with me or my community. If they want to fight Assad, then let them fight Assad. Just don't ask Americans to pay for it with their hard-earned tax dollars.

The "regime" is getting air cover from the Russians. They're going to need A LOT of TOW missiles in order to deter such an advanced force.

I'm sure their special operations are already in theater helping to coordinate the air strikes, just like the US military does when it conducts air strikes. And I'm sure the Russian special operations will make short work of these rag-tag Wahhabists running around with TOW systems. It will be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Yes, and their enemies have advanced as well.

And they don't want to live according to your morally-bankrupt and nihilistic society.

Nothing to do with your community and yet you are always here, rooting for the Russians in some war that has nothing to do with you.

Their suppliers have lots of money.

Yeah, the Assad regime; Hezbollah; Persia; Iraqi and Afghanistani mercenaries said the same thing.

    Time will tell.

Russia is acting in accordance and covered by international law, while the US and others are breaking international law, thumbing our arrogant empire looking noses at the rule of LAW.

Only evil empires break international law. And only criminals defend it. I am ashamed to be a citizen of an evil empire. I am ashamed of being a citizen in a nation who's leaders, who are supposed to represent the American people, are breaking international law anytime the whim hits them, in the interest of the rich elites of this world, who never die in battle. We just send our poor people to do the dying for these insane elites, sociopaths.

You openly admit that you and the Syrian rebels consider our western liberal societies "morally bankrupt and nihilistic", yet you're not so proud that you won't come groveling and begging for our superior technology.

Maybe if your societies weren't so disdainful of science, you would be capable of building such weapon systems yourself, and then you wouldn't have to argue with liberals like me who resent having my tax money spent on a bunch of primitive, religious zealots halfway around the world.

And if that is how the rebels feel about western liberal societies, then why should those western liberal societies give them advanced weapon systems? The rebels are just as likely to use them against us as they are Russia or Assad.

What are you trying to suggest?

They hate our morally bankrupt, nihilistic societies, but they love our technology and our money. I guess these religious fanatics are not as pure as they think.

Hopefully more and more westerners will be woken up to the fact that their money is being sent to people who hate their country and society. Then perhaps they will demand that these terrorist rebels find their own money and technology, assuming they possess the intellect and the wherewithal needed to acquire such without a western sugar-daddy.

And what do you think Obama should have done in Syria differently?

Our Missile Defense is anything but useless.

It is the most capable Missile Defense system currently existing on the planet.

And it is being expanded very rapidly.

I'm an American Nationalist before anything, and I know that the Islamic Enemy declared war on us on 9/11/2001. When they did that, every enemy brigade was to be completely and totally demolished until the end of hostilities. So very basically, if Russia/Syria join together to eliminate our enemies for us, I'm a very happy man.

If it means the thriving of Russia geopolitically in Eurasia? I can live with that, Eurasia is not the West and Russia doesn't have its eyes on a breakout with the USA. ISIS should've never been created, the Arab Spring never given credibility and whether it's us or Russia, thank god someone is slaying these animals in record speed.

TOW is not anti-aircraft, it's an anti-armor/hard target weapon and it hardly advanced. We had them in the Army over thirty years ago. But it will work against any of those Spetsnaz snipers who get within range and depending on what model they get, that could be over 2 1/2 miles. Good luck making that shot Mr Spetsnaz Sniper.

It would definitely not be in the Russian Military's best interest to start screwing around attempting to electronically jam U.S. Military weapons systems in Syria considering we are much better at jamming their weapons systems.

If you seriously think that Russia has better electronic warfare and jamming capability than the U.S. you are the one dreaming.

We are multiple decades in advancement of any such capability the Russian military currently has.

That's what Napoleon and Hitler thought before Waterloo and Stalingrad. As for the Persians, Iran isn't at war? Oh, you mean the civilians being bombed in Yemen?

Afghanistan was under full control of Soviet troops and pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. At least that can be called full control - especially in comparison with the current situation when the Taliban siezes the whole provinces and major cities. The problem of Afghanistan for USSR wasn't in military level, as the rebel units could do very little. First of all, it was diplomatic, political and social problem, as that war was completely useless and purposeless. People in USSR couldn't understand what they have to do with Afghanistan and why this was goes on. Nevertheless, after withdrawal of Soviet troops in 1989 the pro-Soviet regime of president Najibullah ruled in the country until 1992, and it was overthrown only after collapse of USSR. The new strongly pro-American government of president Yeltsin refused to provide military assistance for Najibullah, moreover the new Russia authorities refused to sell fuel for Afghani army, and Russian foreign minister Andrey Kozyrev - bastard, scumbag and the US spy - called Najibullah an "extremist". So, the destiny of Kabul government was decided. The islamic opposition which was supported by the USA for many years got Kabul, Najibullah lost the power and had to seek for shelter in UN embassy. Later he was killed by Talibs.

As for the current situation in Syria, I think there is no reason to overestimate the power of ISIS, Al-Quaeda and so on. They all are ordinary gangsters, though well-armed and become impudent as for a long time there was nobody to kick their stupid a*ses. For real, there is only one military power contesting the Assad's army, this is Al-Nusra. This groups managed to seize the densely populated province of Idlib, as well as part of the main city Aleppo. Al-Nusra is supported and supplied from the territory of Turkey, and ISIS always went behind Al-Nusra. ISIS mostly controls deserts and roads in the eastern part of Syria, they even failed to occupy Deir Ez-Zor, the city is surrounded by ISIS for four years (!), but Assad still holds it. So, after defeat of Al-Nusra the ISIS will remain just a matter of time for Syrian Army.

But the matter of time is important, I can't even suggest how much time it will take for Syrian army to clean the country off the terrorists and mobs - Arabs are well known bad warriors, everybody easily beats them.

Afghanistan can hardly be called a single nation.

Kabul is more like a City State and the Afghan central government has little control and has zero influence in the vast mountainous regions.

The original plan for the U.S. was to learn lessons of the past as Afghanistan is an Empire's GRAVE YARD as no invading military has ever been able to control the entire country and our original plan was to wipe out Al-Qaeda and the Taliban with small numbers of U.S. Special Forces, CIA Teams and Special Teams directing U.S. Air Strikes and this worked very well as we killed Ten's of Thousands of the enemy in the first month.

Then some idiots in DC decided to go Nation Building in a country that is barely out of the Stone Age.

The Soviet's never controlled all of Afghanistan and with the aid of the CIA the Soviet's retreated.

The best and only way to deal with Terrorist encampments in Afghanistan is to do exactly what we did directing massive air strikes.

Syria really is nothing like Afghanistan and Russia has made a mistake in getting involved.

And you base your statement on just what Jeannette?

Have you ever been involved with anything related to electronic warfare of jamming technology?

    I certainly have.

The U.S. Military....if it wanted to....could create havoc upon Russian Military operations in Syria if we wanted to and although Russia could do this to us Russia cannot do it to anywhere near the extent we can do it to them.
