Taking down the Robert E. Lee statue may or may not have something to do with modern racism. But taking it down won't erase history and it just might hurt it. I don't see any good reason why the Robert E. Lee statue should be taken down. Robert E. Lee was part of American history as we all know it. You can't erase history as we know it. There were those that tried to kill people because of their race and try to erase that it never happened. You can't do things like that no matter how you try to do it. It would be a better idea that you put Lee's statue in some museum for all to see to show that he existed. You can't erase history from the books or anything like it. It just isn't done.

In 1975, Congress restored U.S. citizenship to Robert E. Lee, who commanded the Confederate Army during the Civil War and became an enduring icon of the South’s “lost cause.” The Senate passed the resolution unanimously in April, 1975.

The senator from Delaware at this time, Biden.

When do we start taking down
statues of slave owner, George Washington?

    Interpreting people outside their time
is plainly an absurdity and beyond reason.

Pretty weak to be offended by a statue.

Well if we gonna do it let's do it all the way, shut down and find another use for all those Civil War battle parks, why promote tourism based on racism? <sarcasm>

I don't agree with removing it, but I am glad this time it was done in an appropriate manner. Letting an angry mob destroy it is not appropriate. Let it go to a museum or even a private collection. If no one wants it, then recycle it.

Ok, and now his statue is removed based on local decision. I guess they dont want another riot over it.

I believe there are only two, and both have already been vandalized.

I don't mind getting rid of Lee and Jackson; they did commit treason.
But in the same action two other statues were taken down: one of Merriwether Lewis & William Clark and Sacagawea, and one of George Rogers Clark. I don't think there was any real reason to take those down.

Lewis & Clark were commissioned by president Jefferson. Sacagawea was part of the expedition. He was a slave owner. Is that possibly it? I have no guess for Clark. He seems like pretty clean American historical figure to me. It embarrasses me that some americans are offended by statues.

Slave owner Geo. Washington was only a great man in his time.

But, George Floyd was a rehabilitated criminal
    don'tchyaknow.

His rehabilitation coinciding with his death.

    Thus "they" worship idols. Idolatry.

He died in the name of a cause. A national holiday should be considered as should holidays for any criminals who die during their arrest or attempted apprehension.

there really is no reason to celebrate Robert E Lee. We now have more modern heroes including a homosexual pedophile who is worshiped in San Francisco. The times have changed and heroes are judged by different criteria

It sure looks that way. It won't be a surprise if a statue of Harvey Milk is put up in San Francisco.

    .

Lincoln advocated returning black slaves to Africa.

In the Lincoln Memorial in DC... Lincoln's hands are resting on two giant fasces [as in fascist.]

Completely Wrong (with a capital W). The fasces was an ancient Etruscan motif, later adopted by Rome. In classical history it represented ideals like, strength, unity, authority and justice. And continued to be associated with those ideals across the western world on through onto the late 19th/early 20th century.

Construction of the Memorial was started in 1914 and was completed in May 1922. Mussolini only came to power (suddenly) in October 1922. So unless you think the architect was being prescient your putting the cart before the horse.

about time they took it down, all it was doing was keeping hate alive and supercharging it

maybe we can put a statue of Hitler up at Mar-a-Lago, I mean it's just history right?

heck, let's move all the Confederate Statues and flags to the Trump Presidential library

there is a difference of course between forgetting history and trying to rewrite it, and trying to make it honorable and putting it up on a pedestal

Why won't anyone pulling down Martin Luther King statues? This guy was a notorious
womanizer who abused his own female staff. Worse - he claims we should judge
people by their 'character' and that is entirely offensive to some people.

George Washington led a rebellion for the US, not against it. Pull your head out.

The word, "fascist", originates from the word, "fasces"... that is why Italy's anti-marxist "fascist" leader, Mussolini, adopted the word/symbol.

    fascist (adj.)

1921, from Italian partito nazionale fascista, the anti-communist political movement organized 1919 under Benito Mussolini (1883-1945); from Italian fascio "group, association," literally "bundle," from Latin fasces (see fasces).

    https://www.etymonline.com/word/fascist

Marxists call all their enemies "fascists"

There are many fasces symbols throughout Washington DC. I personally don't have a problem with that. I posted this to prove a point... the point being the anti-fascist marxists [Antifa] want to destroy what's left of White Christian heritage/symbols in all [former] White Christian nations... just like the evil marxists did in Christian Tsarist Russia. Ironically, in WW2 the Christian "fascists" were fighting against marxism... while the USA & Britain were allied with evil antichrist marxist Stalin to destroy the Christian "fascists" !!
