Amid all the hand wringing and speculation over the fate of the GOP and the GOP Congressional leadership in the wake of John Boehner's resignation, relatively little attention has been given to the total smackdown of Ted Cruz, one of the people most responsible for the crisis in leadership in the party.

Cruz, and his fellow true believers have divided the party against itself, and, even now, are proud of what they've done. They don't seem to notice or care that they have not accomplished a thing, other than being the major factor in why Congress has dismal approval ratings.

Cruz has been at it again all Summer. In a disgraceful display of arrogance and rudeness, he gave a speech calling his own leader a liar on the Senate floor.

Most recently, he appointed himself the leader of a scheme to shut down the government one more time over funding of Planned Parenthood.

This time, even his colleagues in the Freedom Caucus suddenly needed to rearrange their sock drawers. Cruz wound up leading a coalition of one.

He wasn't even given the courtesy of a vote.

Ted Cruz has managed to alienate everyone in Capitol Hill. Mitch Mc Connell has him totally punked.

He won't be the GOP Presidential candidate. He won't be able to get support beyond the far right, and the big money will never come his way.

I fully expect a well financed, and backed candidate to whip him in the primary should he run for re election to his Senate seat.

Cruz is exactly what the republican party needs. The establishment republicans are the problem. They provide absolutely no opposition to Obama. Promises, promises, during campaigning, but nothing but excuses when it came time to fight. That's why Boehner is gone and hopefully McConnell soon.

Yes, as a presidential candidate, he could give the GOP it's worst drubbing since 1936.

So, Cruz is no good because he wouldn't step aside and let the dems have everything they wanted?

The GOP are imploding. There is no unity within the GOP. Every GOP lawmaker is an independent agent seeking maximum self benefit.

Obama is the only person currently able to exert control over the GOP and he defeats GOP at every opportunity. Future historians will look back in amazement at how Obama maintained management over the USA lawmakers despite a hostile GOP.

If it quacks and limps it's a GOP lame duck lawmaker.

I agree that Obama has had his way. That's why Boehner is gone and conservatives want McConnell gone. They're not fighting.

The worth of a politician is measured by what they accomplish.

And other than winning the nearly open hatred of the entire US Senate and the GOP leadership, Ted Cruz has NOTHING to show for his time in office.

They have pretty much gotten everything they want as it is. OR the rich/elites and their lobbyists, have done well in purchasing the votes of both parties and 'we the people' lose again because of the two party scam.

I really haven't seen him do anything except pander to the extremists on the far right and stir up unnecessary controversy in the social issues department. He is basically a good distraction for the plutocracy, helping to take the eyes off the crony-capitalism the plutocracy does so well.

There is no doubt he is doing what is asked of him, and he is just part of the show that is politics. If he 'is' shunned out of politics, it would be against the rich/elites best interest, but be assured if he has 'jumped the shark' in his political career he has a long future as a lobbyist for the rich/elitists he has served well.

Good points. I would add that he has so thoroughly discredited the far-right that he's going to marginalize that group. Not a bad thing. Expect to see more courage from those who've so far been hesitant to call them what that they are.

Nope, he is no good because the man is not a diplomat and has no clue how to work with others unless he is getting his own way, he is a failure as a politician and if by some miracle he became President he would be a total bust, time for something better.

He comes off like a used car salesmen. Everything he says reeks of being rehearsed and lacking empathy or passion. Plus, his idiotic gov't shutdown only hurt his image.

Good. The GOP leadership is the problem. If McConnell can be driven out then that's a good accomplishment.

Carnival Cruz has now firmly established his bona fides as a fringe pixie.

His fairy dust has enchanted a few out on the periphery, but the GOP is not about to allow him yet another tantrum in which he shuts down Yellowstone or indulges himself in some other such ineffectual, puckish prank.

To whatever extent he prides himself upon being Lord of the Flies in Boehner's torment, that constitutes his zenith.

At some point, Texans will be asking why he can't get anything done legislatively.

He doesn't draw a government paycheck for pleasuring himself with his impotent antics.

Only Bush has raised more money and his donors are having second thoughts at this point.

And herein lies the problem. To say that establishment Republicans provide no opposition to Obama is to ignore the political reality of the past several years. The greatest problem though is the unreasonableness of Cruz and those of his mindset. A mindset that has only a small minority and whose ideology is widely rejected by the vast majority of Americans. I suspect the anger comes out of the frustration over this fact.

Seems to be a characteristic of conservatives, especially of the strongly Christian variety, that they take such an exclusive point of view of the world that they alienate any potential allies.

We disagree on what's "the problem". The political reality is Boehner and McConnell promised to stop obamacare if given a majority. They have it and will not do anything about it, and instead make excuses why Obama can't be challenged. That's why Boehner is gone and why McConnell is looking over his shoulder.

Cruz is doing what Texans sent him to do. Republican leadership has become Democrat Lite and are taking us to the same place as Democrats on a slightly slower path. Ted is my senator!

The thread title is a lie. It does not match the article. Ted Cruz is one of the few U.S. Senators trying to look out for our children and work against the 18 TRILLION + debt the Democrats and Establishment Republicans are burdening generations to come with.

    Thank you Senator Cruz!

The way I see it, the GOP and conservatives created cruz and he has single-handedly brought down it's creator.
