Tesla revealed an all-new version of its Roadster sports car that can go from a stop to 60 miles an hour in 1.9 seconds, a figure that would make it the fastest-accelerating production car ever.

That was after Tesla unveiled its new semi-truck, which CEO Elon Musk said can go zero-to-60 in five seconds with an empty trailer. That's a figure usually associated with luxury sedans, not big trucks.

With a full load, the truck can still reach that speed in 20 seconds, according to Musk, much faster than any diesel-powered truck.

Only after talking about the truck's speed did Musk mention its range. It can go up to 500 miles with a full load at highway speeds, he said.

    Musk keeps pushing the envelope.

500 mile range isn't crap if you're talking long haul trucking a Peterbilt has 2 140 gallon gas tanks and a range over 1400. He can fill both those tanks full of bio diesel in about an hour and be on the road again. How long will it take to recharge that battery? It's an interesting concept but right now it simply isn't competitive. This is why rational people don't think progressive don't understand reality.

Only 250K LMFAO :) I could drive my Focus literally a 100+ years on 250k :) Plus I don't have to calculate gradient, temperature, night time energy use, stereo on-off, AC on-off, windshield wipers On-Off! Plus you have to plan your trips to include a super charger station otherwise it's going to cost you ONE HOUR, and Nineteen minutes of charge time for ever FORTY miles you travel.. And more than likely the charger station supplying the energy is a coal or NG power plant at that ;)

Car of the future alright, you get to your destination sometime in the DISTANT future :roflol:

    Read their site :)

They claim they average $1.82 to charge enough to go 40 miles, where they mislead is how they calc the gas vehicle @ 21 mph and $2.70 a gallon. My damn 4x4 gets better then 21mpg and I never pay more than $1.70 a gallon after rebates!

And when I use their numbers for my Focus, not the best gas milers by any means gets 38mpg around town so I actually come in under Tesla's costs. Plus I don't have to sit in a denny's drinking coffee for an hour or as much as five hours! I think I can find a much better investment for 250K ;)

I'm looking out the window and there is already 4" of snow, so ya bring that little roadster or any Tesla out here and lets see how they perform on snow and ice and ZERO degree temps :)

I have yet to have a battery last 40 months here I can just imagine what it would cost a Tesla owner to replace their batteries, not even taking in to consideration the reduced charge times :)

Tesla doesn't tell you that if you have to run your heater in cold weather you lose a almost half your mileage, heat is a byproduct of combustion, on a Tesla, it's a power guzzler ;)

Ah, the sweet smell of entitled smug...... At $250K the car is accessible for only the most entitled of the smug. So, likely, very few will ever actually see one. I recall the previous Tesla roadster, and to date, I can say I have only ever seen 1 in person.

On the Semi. Beat to market by Cummins Diesel. The Cummins truck will actually be available in 2018/9. When can Musk deliver? He can't even deliver his "people's car, the 3. And his quality problems are legion. If progressive means never to ever actually be realized, then, you can have your progressivity. When the reality overcomes your progressive smug, all that is left is this icky residue, all over your face. Ta.

If not for weather I'd just use my Harley or Indian but either handle worth a crap on snow and ice and in the rain they leak really bad!

I have. One of the most fragile cars I've ever been in. Left me with the feeling that light was a factor of cheap, and unable to protect an occupant from even a middling crash. Just an observation, haven't all Tesla accidents at speed been fatal?

I would point out that the aveage V6 Camry will outrun your GS. While the C5 is quick, an average modestly modified Miata will rule it on a track.
