Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. ~George Santayana

There have been many notable events in human history, & in modern American education, little time is spent examining the impact & influence of these events. Actually, it seems that progressive run educational institutions do not study history at all, but only revise it for a hidden agenda.

The Muslims had conquered Persia, Turkey, Egypt, Spain, & were moving into France. They had swept across N. Africa, & completely annihilated their conquests. With great brutality & ruthlessness they vanquished any foes that dared to resist them. But in a turning point of Human history, the Franks, under Charles Martel were able to fend off the muslim onslaught, & changed what looked like a sure conquest of Europe by Islamists.

This is a good summary of the battle:
Here's a short video of the battle, & a decent summary of the facts.

In the classic historical work, 'The Decline & Fall of the Roman Empire', Edward Gibbon mused about what 'might have been', had Martel been defeated by the muslims:
"the Arabian fleet might have sailed without a naval combat into the mouth of the Thames. Perhaps the interpretation of the Koran would now be taught in the schools of Oxford, and her pulpits might demonstrate to a circumcised people the sanctity and truth of the revelation of Mahomet."

And in a bizarre bit of historical irony, the American Muslim educator Muqtedar Khan (and self proclaimed 'moderate') wrote:
"Remembering what he wrote, I wondered what his response would be, if he were to now take a tour of Oxford. Islam is present and thriving in Oxford University and in Oxford city.
Oxford is clearly one of the most enlightened cities in the world, with its 30+ very old and very distinguished colleges, and boasting of some of the finest minds in nearly every field as part of its citizenry. Add to this the spectacular domes and tall minarets of the two big mosques in Oxford and the picture of a virtuous city is complete. Gibbon would have been surprised to learn the lesson that military defeats do not stop the advance of civilizations and the globalization of Islam is unimpeded by the material and military weaknesses of the Muslim world."

By their own admission, the goal of muslim globalization will continue, either by subversion or direct assault. Martel provides us with the lesson of history. If we are to survive, we will have to fight & kill the islamic invaders, or surrender to their conquest.

The Muslim religion began as a religion of war, terrorism, intolerance and empire building. It mass murdered and enslaved its way into power - slaughtering those of the Christian nations of the ME and across North African and Eastern Europe. I doubt 1 in 100 Americans known that virtually every Muslim country now had been a Christian nation for hundreds of years prior to the rise of Islam, though to the East it was Hindus they slaughtered and in African it was those of African religions.

What is happening is nothing new. Other than a few dormant stages, the Muslim wars and terrorism for empire building has been going on for 1500 years.

I find it to be amazing that this guy Martel was the grandfather of Charlemagne, the original uniter of Europe. His was the only kingdom where France & Germany were together (for any length of time).

But had his grandfather not stemmed the tide of islamic advances from spain, the world might have been quite different.

Of course, during this same time, the Byzantines were fighting islam in their territory, & the Indians were, too. The persians had already been killed or driven out of Persia, & most of the Arabian peninsula had already been conquered by the Arabs fighting for islam. The whole history of the Copts (Egyptians) is fascinating, too, & some of the major battles as the muslim invaders took out whole cultures.

Of course, now it is not PC to be imperialistic & genocidal, but back in the day it was in vogue. I don't think the muslims got the memo, though..

One can see the effects of years of Islam. Just look at all of North Africa. A gigantic wasteland. No great cities like Alexandria. No great inventions or discoveries there since Islam has spread its cancer. Among the most evil and inhospitable places on the globe outside North Korea.

Indeed and somehow the Arabs paint the Christians as the aggressors, citing the crusades...which actually was in response to the Muslims taking Jerusalem from the Christians. Thank you Martel, unfortunately the French nation today has been successfully invaded your victory is being reversed.

Umm not that I disagree with premise of your statement, but Alexandria is in North Africa.

I mean the ancient city of Alexandria and others before the Islamic made it and the entire length and breath of North Africa into a stinkhole.

Having stumbled across this thread I must say I'm delighted to encounter a perspective closer to the truth than most recent commentary on Islam. However, facing the reality of Islam's historic rise will not protect us. Until and unless the disease of 'political correcteness' is cured we are doomed to repeat our mistakes. A widespread and thorough criticism of the contents of the Koran, and other so called holy books, must take place if the gains of The Enlightenment are not to be lost.
