Obama just alienated the very portion of the electorate that is going to decide this race. And boy did he ever! I think the author if this article hit it right on the head. "if you had a business, you didn't build that! Someone else made that happen." Does anyone doubt this statement will liver forever in American political history? When I first heard it I got really angry. But then it started to set in, this may in and of itself destroy Obama's ability to speak with any credibility on the economy. He didn't just show ignorance about entrepreneurship, but actual contempt for it. Reminds me of what happened to Kerry when he showed contempt for his military service and the metals he received. The Biggest Mistake of Campaign 2012… …is not Mitt Romney’s handling of Bain Capital, or anything Mitt Romney has done. The biggest mistake was the one made by Barack Obama on Friday, when what you might call his now-familiar “Declaration of Interdependence” went completely off the rails. Obama’s “we’re all in this together” bit has been a feature of his speeches during the past year, as he cites the government-led activities that have made this country better—land-grant colleges and infrastructure and the social safety net. It sounds kind of uplifting, which is why he likes to say it, and it fits his general message of a country in which government plays a central role for the good of all. But when he extended it to personal and private endeavor, the president revealed the danger of this message—to him. ”If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that,” Obama said. “Somebody else made that happen.” Aside from the fact that this isn’t even remotely true—if you’re a taxpayer and government funds were used to “make something happen,” then by definition you paid for it—it was profoundly stupid politically. In 2007, the last year for which we have data, according to the Census Bureau, there were 21.7 million businesses in the United States with no employees—meaning they were sole proprietorships, or free-lance businesses employing only their owner. Of the six million remaining businesses in the U.S., more than 3 million had 1 to 4 employees, and 1 million had 5 to 9. So, all in all, small businesses run by one person employing fewer than ten numbered an astonishing 25 million. This is probably the matter of greatest pride for each and every one of the people who runs that business. He or she views himself or herself as a hard-working, go-getting, scrappy individualist. And it’s likely that many of them—many, many of them—are independent voters. Certainly that was the case 20 years ago when Ross Perot scored 20 percent of the vote, overwhelmingly from small businessmen who were angered by George H.W. Bush and yet couldn’t pull the lever for Bill Clinton. America is different demographically, but the class of people to whom Perot appealed is far larger than it was then. And a man running for national office just said of their own businesses that they “didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” This statement is a colossal opportunity for Mitt Romney and will prove a suppurating wound for the president, who revealed a degree not only of condescension but of contempt for the very people who are going to decide this election. And if there’s one thing people recognize, it’s when they are being viewed with contempt.
Besides the incredibly long hours and risk that most small business owners put in... that is another huge point I made before Barack Obama ignorantly said us small business owners did not build it. All those TAX DOLLARS and come from "We the People" you (*)(*)(*)(*)ing Communist assvoid! He knows nothing about the magic bucks that he spends.
Other than the rabid Left-wing socialists and their welfare state pets, who would vote for this ass clown? _
Obama: If You've Got a Business, You Didn't Build That Business ... What an idiot!
Yes, the election of 2010 proved that. But, to put the "quote" in context.... Show me a single "small" business that built the roads it uses to make money.... Or show me one that built the airports... Or one that built the harbors... Or one that built the power grid or the water and sewage systems, or pays the cost of police and fire and education.... How much would any business be worth without all those "socialist" contributions from all of us?
As a small business operation myself, this assclown might as well have spit on the face of the entire private sector, and was disgusted. The man is a freaking Big Government STATIST.And of course it would come from someone that knows squat about what it takes to run a business. The man has probably never done a back breaking hard days work in his LIFE.He pissed off the Chamber Of Commerce,NFIB,and pretty much just shoved major donors to Mitt Romneys side. He has no (*)(*)(*)(*) clue on what being an American is,or the American way,and has crushed the American Dream, where it use to be if you are successful ,you were rewarded, now you are PUNISHED for success.Disgusting words coming from the President Of The United States.
Show me one that wasn't contracted out contracted to businesses. Contracted! We are called taxpayers for a reason. WE PAID FOR IT! Not the (*)(*)(*)(*)ing government! Losers use the same roads, police, fire protection and schools that successfull people do. What about that do you not understand? The difference between a loser and a successful person is that: A WINNER gets up every day and MAKES THINGS HAPPEN for themselves! A LOSER just SITS AROUND WAITING FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN TO THEM!
Deflecting the point of the OP is futile. One has only to compare the number of government employees to the number of small business owners in this country to figure out which group has the largest number of voters.
This is the "no new taxes" comment. This is the "spread the wealth" comment. This is the "clinging to your guns and religion" comment this will be used and rightly so. I was listening to a talk show on the radio the other day, and people were literally very angry over these comments. Usually people just brush stuff off or are upet, but not angry as they were after hearing this. And the talk show was not even a right wing show, more middle of the road.
So far the biggest mistake I am seeing is from the Romney camp. Where are the ads? Im a casual TV watcher...dont tune in alot during the week...however during the times I have tuned in, I have seen plenty of Obamas ad campaign running it's lies. Havent seen one from Romney. People wont vote for the guy they arent hearing from Mitt, step it up.
Or you might ask, how much would you have to "contribute" if business did not exist? Did paved highway's exist before the automobile? Under a system based on individual freedom and liberty, the US rapidly became the most advanced society on the planet. However, the more we allow the "common good", "socialist" message to erode our desire to achieve as individuals and allow government to advance the notion that individual achievement, success, be viewed as somehow selfish or unfair, the more our nation becomes stagnant. Today the country is filled with division, one group pitted against another. Daily we see Marxist, Communists and anarchists openly slandering the US, causing property damage and chaos in our streets. Our own president giving his support to them, declaring "America has never worked", advancing the message of class warfare and basically declaring the notion of individual achievement is a misnomer. If Obama is allowed to continue as president, America will never recover it's liberty, national pride or spirit of individualism.
The businesses paid for the roads. Everything your speaking of was pretty much local and state government issues, not the federal government.
like I stated in another thread Obama managed to insult whites, blacks, latinos, men and women entrepreneurs all in on breath. I wonder if he is channeling Joe Biden?
It proves that this man has not once, every made a sacrifice, to attempt to build something from the ground up on his own.
Obama has not even run a lemonaid stand much less a business; his ideas and concepts are childish. Even Alice couldn't see what he sees in her Looking Glass. Someone give him the name of a good eye doctor.
"The point is that, when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together." What part of that do righties object to exactly?
Theunbubba handed you your hat in response to your statement so I won't pile on too much. Businesses are not exempt from contributing to the tax base that creates all those things. They helped pay for it. They helped to build it. Tax payers created a demand for it. The government contracts out these contract to people who pay taxes that help to pay for the contract. We are all in it. You work for a wage? By Obama's standard you do not earn your money, the governments earns it for you by creating roads and airports, harbors and power grid. Yep, your efforts are not your own, they belong to the government due to their efforts. Therefore you owe more in taxes because they did it for you.
Really? You are putting his after thought before his opening statement? More examples of liberal logic. His true feeling came out. I think TOTUS will soon be filing for divorce. Scripts are needed for those who speak from their heart and make telling statements that reveal core beliefs. He is a shoot-from-the-hip-arrogant-idiot who needs reeled in to stop him from speaking his truth. His handlers should be more prepared. His surrogates should post in forums and act like he said nothing at all.
Obama is a fool. He does not understand or appreciate the free-enterprise system. Obama sincerely believes the "government" is the "be-all" and the "end-all" of everyone's success! Obama: If You've Got a Business, You Didn't Build That Business ... The Governmernt Did!
standard for you to fabricate quotes....cant say im shocked "The point is that, when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative.."
Actually there were hundreds of business that existed before any roads were built in america. In fact it was businessmen that built all those roads. Just ask yourself. What came first, businesses or roads? So to you: Show me one road that wasn't built by a business. Show me one airport that wasn't built by a business. Or one harbor or one power grid or water and sewage system. Show me one police officer or fireman or teacher that doesn't draw his salary from businesses.
