For the first time in history, Palestinian Arabs wouldn't be under the control of a foreign city using the map below. What did they do with it? Absolutely nothing. Since 1947 Israel has built a first world nation despite being under constant attack. Every time I've visited the West Bank, it's ranged from okay to an absolute dump. The nicest places there are the resorts along the dead sea.

What a great way to use such a generous gift.

I don't believe that the Irgun and the Stern Gang ever agreed to this...

Yup. Seems like 80 years later they haven’t realized Israel isn’t going anywhere. It’s similar to groups in the US who refuse to focus their energies on improvement.

They likely wouldn’t have agreed to anything proposed by the British except a complete return to England.

Which is basically what happened. After the UN agreement, the Brits walked away from Palestine and washed their hands of the whole thing. They took no action to see that the agreement was implemented.

Are the Brits their daddies or something? They need to be handheld through everything?

The mandate ended with the UN partition. Should the British have just stayed?

The international community left, and everything exploded. I'm not saying it was the right or wrong decision, but it's what happened.

In fairness you don't know how they would have turned out had they not lost to the Israelis?

    Basically, yes.

Why do you think all of the Israeli spokespersons are educated here (in Britain)?

The UN Partition Plan was voted and approved November 29, 1947. Subsequently the British governments actions were as follows:

Because we speak properly unlike all those bloody foreigners.

Yep, we knew the UN would make a hash of it and given their record in the rest of the world we were darn right,

And even back then they realized that Jerusalem should be a separate state.

Fixed it for you. And for example, India, where the British leaving resulted in a major civil war, not a little kerfuffle like Palestine.

Hey, what do you think would happen when you removed Pax Britannica? This is a conflict dating back to the Bible, we weren't going to solve it overnight.

Israel has received over 300 billion dollars from America since it's inception. That is $30,000 for every person currently living there. I would feel a lot better about Israel if they weren't constantly putting their hand into my wallet. I would feel a lot better about my own government if they put Americans first.

So they should have stayed then?
    Also, citing Wikipedia? Really?

it wasn’t unreasonable. Even now, the Jordanian government is custodian of the Dome of the Rock, and the Israeli police enforce the reasonable rules Muslims want.

Palestinians could have had a similar peaceful arrangement.

I am surprised there aren't more American Conservatives with that view.

Right on cue, we hear that Biden is going to allow the mass importation of Palestinian refugees. At the beginning of this conflict, there was a leaked Israeli security memo where they were discussed their plan to force the Palestinians to the West. It would be treasonous to allow these people into America and of course there will be just enough support to get it done.
