I voted for Trump – twice. Liz Cheney's book and DOJ Jan. 6 indictment changed my mind

I voted for Donald Trump — twice. I am a staunch, almost redneck conservative, registered Republican, Oklahoman and American. I believe in limited government, free enterprise and traditional Christian values. I believe that government should stay out of the personal lives of women and others who want to live alternative lifestyles, whatever that means. I believe in personal responsibility and that government should help those who can’t help themselves.

    ...

I believe that Joe Biden and his followers in Washington have been in the top five of the worst political leaders we have ever seen in this country’s history. Outrageous mismanagement of the southern border, historic levels of inflation, existentially dangerous, out-of-control spending and government debt are his legacy.

Following the 2020 election, I admit to having stuck my head in the sand as a citizen. I didn’t want to pay much attention to all the ridiculous haranguing about stolen elections and other crazy political rhetoric. I have to admit that I was intrigued by some of the conspiracy theories about ballot stuffing and crooked voting machines. I watched in awe and disgust the TV coverage of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. I just shook my head, not totally surprised.

Liz Cheney's memoir changed my mind

However, recently, for some reason, I purchased and downloaded a book by Liz Cheney titled "Oath and Honor, a Memoir and a Warning." This book was published in late 2023, and it details Mrs. Cheney’s involvement as a senior leader behind the investigation of the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol. It is extremely detailed and very well organized. Liz goes to great pains to be objective, factual and fair in her description of how the committee was formed and how it operated for about 18 months from June 2021 to December 2022.

The committee was incredibly diligent and meticulous in its approach to developing and corroborating evidence that shows the role President Donald Trump played from the day after the 2020 election until the fateful Jan. 6 debacle as he attempted to hold on to his job. It is an impressive literary work.

    ...

How is Trump not in jail right now?

This book is a very frightening story! It is scary because it shows how incredibly obsessed Trump was about being cheated out of the election. He was totally irrational and willing to believe anything he was told that would lead to a verification of fraudulent voting activities. No matter how hard his advisers and supporters tried to tell him there was simply no substantial evidence that the election was stolen, he continued to connive, coerce and threaten people to overturn the results. He filed some 60 lawsuits in various states attempting to show fraudulent voting activity, all of which he lost.

The ultimate “Big Lie” was that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. He continues to spread this propaganda to this day.

Practically all of the witnesses who testified at the committee hearings were members of Trump’s own party. They were his advisers, his supporters, his employees. And the most scary element of all is that he clearly incited the ugly incident at the Capitol, and once it was underway, he actively avoided taking steps to stop it even while hundreds of people were injured and some were killed. Further, and equally dangerously enlightening is the number of Republican politicians who supported Trump’s irrationality and disturbing behavior and continue to do so to this day.

It's doubtful that she even wrote it instead of just having someone write it for her. Whatever the case may be, I have no interest in her opinion.
I still remember how much you guys hated her father but now since she hates the bad orange man she's a hero

Unfortunately, the majority of MAGA won't. The addiction to Agent Orange numbs them to the truth.

Oh well. Some people vote with their hearts and not on policy. Nothing wrong with that! I know someone that HATED Hillary and her policy platform and the "grab em by the P" thing was enough to push them to vote blue. Nothing abnormal about this thread at all.

You miss the point, and she is ignoring the point of her failure. She may have the support of the country, and those that bought her lil book, but at the end of the day her constituents told her to take a flying f#$%.

In Wyoming, when you're hired to do a job you do it the way you're hired to do it..

Her book title should have been, "I am lizzy, hear me whine"..

You may not like Cheney, but she stood up for what is right. There was a plot to switch electors orchestrated by Donald Trump and his rogue attorneys. Republican after Republican has testified to the electoral plot and the big lie. It is beyond me how any American would allow this to happen.

I think it's extremely funny how Democrats have selective memory and forgot all about the riots in DC on his inauguration day with over 200 arrest and a limousine belonging to an immigrant business owner that was torched by the rioters.

Shall I go to YouTube and find the montage video of all the elected Democrats calling Trump and illegitimate president?

I bet you had no problem believing them.

    That's the bottom line..

She took an oath to the constitution, and she stood up for that. You don't stand by somebody who says that elections were stolen, even after they went through all the courts. And you don't stand by somebody who tries to interfere with state elections.

She got the job from her constituents. Clearly you don't understand the concept if being elected and serving the will of your electorate..

I bet she does NOW ;)

So are you saying she should have abandoned her oath to the Constitution? I guess first you should answer the question of the "big lie" and the "electoral plots". For most of us those are clearly violations of our Constitution.

Agree. They won't read it. Even if they did, they would condemn what she stated. Plus they seem to have developed an "allergy" to the TRUTH and FACTS. ( and REALITY) Or they see her as a "traitor" to their dear leader, Trump.

She may be a staunch Rep, but at least she is intelligent and articulate AND now has had an awakening to what Trump really is, Maybe that is what scares the MAGAS . ( her capability and eloquence)

Both her and Adam Kinzinger stood up for the constitution and what is morally right, and no doubt, both paid the political cost. I'm an Independent, but I consider myself a fiscal Conservative. I don't recognize this Republican party.

That is likely because it is NOT RECOGNIZABLE. It has changed so drastically in the time that Trump went political. It has literally become Trumps party ..... which I suspect is by design.

Good observations, btw. If quite concerning. That is not to suggest that a party does not change with time........as everything should evolve and improve. That is not what is happening here.

Don't know where you been since 2016, but you might want to look up the word representative.. She was nothing more, and if she didn't agree with her constituents then she should have resigned and saved face..

I mean how hard is it to get the pulse of a state with just over 500k and far less voters, she's full of herself and that's putting it lightly..

Except we know the difference between storming the capitol and riots, or between verbal bitching and 60+ lawsuits.

Most of us know that we have a less than an idea choice this time with Biden and Trump. It’s the classic lesser of two evils choice.

Trump is disappointing, but Biden in senile, corrupt and controlled by far leftists. I could never vote for that crap. I will not stay home when the country is going to hell, and all that my wife and I have worked a saved for is on the line.

So far as Liz Cheney goes, she can go to political hell. Like the Bush family of RINOs, she is just a pissed off clown who is angry because the Republican Party has left her behind with her go along to get along political philosophy.

She sees to think that the current crop of Democrats are like Hubert Humphrey and Jimmy Carter. They aren’t. Communism and dictatorship are at the core of their political philosophy. The Democrats keep harping about how “Trump will end democracy.” Actually it is they who are out to end our Republic with one party rule.

Liz is blowing the "end of democracy" whistle as hard as she can. She knows the party leaders will not stop it.

I doubt that she does know about serving her constituents. She is a dead elephant who is beyond resuscitation. Joining the January 6 Commission circus was like joining the Communist Party when you are in your 40s. She was old enough to know better.
