    I remember the first city sales tax when I was a boy. One penny, hell anybody can afford a penny on the dollar...……….

    Yeah, I know, taxes once instated almost never decrease. But a single payer system would at least have very heavy leverage to bargain with health care providers like hospitals and pharmaceutical companies. Other countries that have single payer systems seem to be happy with it, in spite of the higher taxes. Maybe we really do get what we pay for.

    Well, I think corruption is what drives our system, everybody has an ox to guard and a lobbyist to hand out money to keep that bovine from being gored. Medicare is a good system if you can afford a decent supplement policy. If we actually had a Congress working for the people Pharma would be brought under control and some damned price controls or at least some competition from abroad might lower costs.
