If we can reduce the cost of incarceration to something like $1.36 per day as Joe Arpaio did in AZ, I might go for it. And there will be no contact with the outside world - including family members.

The death pentaly is not a deterrent its a punishment. It also prevents a killer from killing again. Ted Bundy hasnt killed a single person since we executed him. This latest POS cop killer blowing kisses at the family of his victims during sentencing then saying he is going to kill more cops should be executed as soon as humanely possible. In his case I prefer torture first as part of punishment, but Ill settle for execution and nothing less. And while we are at it...screw this lethal dose of drugs crap...use good ole electricity or a nice firing squad. Execution should be painful for these scum. We should televise it too ....PPV and give the money to his victims family and to pay for his execution. Save all the right to live bs .... these slugs gave up their right to be humans when they decided to kill innocent people.

First of all, death row inmates typically spend decades on death row so they aren’t much cheaper. Executions themselves are also expensive.

Second, our fiscal problems in relation to incarceration could be solved by ending the war on drugs. The problem isn’t imprisoning murderers being so expensive. The problem is that we imprison millions of people on drug charges and keep them imprisoned for very long periods of time. Violent offenders should be imprisoned. Guys in jail for carrying an ounce of some banned substance should not be there and then being there is what generates our problem with the expense of imprisonment.

Incredible story. The things that happen to people we know...........when I was barely 20 Ted Bundy terrorized a sorority at FSU and a friend of mine knew one of the girls that was killed.
After leaving there he picked up a little girl on US 90 in my very own home town, kidnapped, raped, and killed her. She was abducted at the junior high school I had attended as a boy.
He ended up getting bar-b-qued though. Fitting end.

And new problems arise when innocent people are put to death.

Why are you using the life expectancy of the US at large? You should be using the average life expectancy of a person in prison.

As I wrote, I would like to see people like Fields, or Bundy, or any of the multitude of people on Death Row subjected to the same brutality they inflicted on their victims.

I'm thinking with the amazing advancements in robotic's, such a reverse reenactment could be possible.....

Probably why I will never be crowned King......

If even one innocent person gets put to death, was it worth it?

Reasonable doubt is a high hurdle to clear, even in OJ Simpson's case (which there was none, racially biased trial). That being said, I'm not sure I favor the death penalty for any other than nailed to the wall proven serial killers. There's no doubt in those cases, none at all.

It plays an important role in the purification process of the gene pool. If we minimize the ability of drug traffickers, human traffickers, murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and other assorted scum from reproducing then that's an important thing.

What other nations do or don't do should have no bearing on the actions of the United States.

Many other nations have considerably more restrictive abortion laws than the United States. Tell you what. I'll oppose the death penalty if those who currently oppose the death penalty endorse the restrictive abortion laws of nations such as Ireland?

    Happy?

The idea that I can go around and commit some of the most depraved and evil acts imaginable and they can never be extreme enough to warrant the death penalty is a betrayal of justice.

Maybe ask a survivor of a violent crime ... A crime commited by someone who got parole on a "life" sentence, or a break on habitual offender status.

It appeals to our penchant for blood, revenge and human sacrifice. Yeah, we do lock up more citizens than any other nation. We're 5% of the planetary population, 25% of the incarcerated planetary population, but hey, looka us, we turned it into a corporate for profit enterprise with stocks traded on Wall Street and legally enslaved convict labor leasing. In this manner corporations can pay pennies on the dollar for labor while offloading the cost of maintaining a labor force onto the public. And as you know, capitalism requires consistent growth toward infinity, so look for more; the power structure can turn $40-50K per hominid per year in this manner, and this is a growth industry with think tank legislative and lobbying efforts. So we now in this society have corporations and publicly traded stocks with a vested interest in higher societal rates of crime, violence, recidivism, poverty, more draconian sentencing and more criminalized behaviors. America has returned to profiteering form bondage and 95% of the folks on the inside never got a jury trial. Fweedumb.

The death penalty is legal so in that regard we do have Justice. The only problem is it takes way too long to actually put someone to death once they've been charged of a crime.

For cases where there is absolute proof the process should be expedited and it shouldn't take longer than a few months to put someone down.

Exactly whose getting punished under your idea? The perp gets three hots and a cot a library and computer access, free healthcare, and the worst thing he has to worry about is the slight possibility that he'll have to share living quarters with an equal opportunity rapist. Meanwhile his victm's family gets to help pay for all the perp's freebies in perpetuity. And there is always the possibility that he'll get released by clerical error.

Another person touting the so called "prison industrial complex" fallacy.

I guess you didn't know that the overwhelming majority of American inmates are NOT incarcerated in for profit penal institutions.
