why do you say that, cause and effect seems to be what were seeing

what do you see that seems to be created without a cause

you think a God always existed, some think it's more likely energy always existed and changes with time

Religious people say we must have a purpose or our lives are meaningless. Life does have a purpose even though it is an unintended purpose. That purpose is to stay alive long enough to mate. The purpose then did not come before life, it came as a result of life. I can give you an atheists purpose for you if you really need something more though. Our purpose is to be good.

Because- essentially - atheists are just a bundle of cells and product of a totally random series of events.

There is no ultimate reason (or God) for their existence.

Not necessarily. There's determinist atheists and theists who think that god is cruel and stupid.

I find the statement "Everything happens for a reason" annoying. It's just restating basic causality. Of course your child getting hit by a car happened for a reason. The reason is that the driver wasn't paying attention or your child is bad at looking both ways.

Things happen for reasons. That doesn't mean anything special.

You misunderstand the point of the problem of evil. The point of the problem of evil is to point out that that the concept of a tri-omni god is nonsensical. It's not about emotions, it's about extrapolating from the premises that bad things happen and that a being that doesn't want bad things to happen would want to stop bad things from happening.

You're stating opinions, but you aren't giving any reasons for those opinions. The only thing you managed to prove in this paragraph is that it's possible to arrange words in that order. If you want to write a convincing argument, you need examples, details, and explanations.

Furthermore: If a god wants me to believe in him and knows everything, than surely he knows how I think. Why would said god try to persuade me to believe in him through methods he knows won't work on me rather than simply speaking to me face to face? It's nonsensical.

I find that most believers don't understand the full scope of words prefixed with omni-. They treat "all powerful" like "very powerful". They never bother thinking about the full implications of concepts like that.

Yes there is. The ultimate reason for existence is the continuation of the species. Why do you think humans were given reproductive organs?

This is the common two-dimensional thinking exhibited in atheists. There is a key difference between basic causality and things that happen because they serve as a pivotal stepping stone for eventual circumstances.

It is entirely about emotions because the atheist allows his feelings about any negative situation to muddle his perspective. This starts from the very moment the atheist views a certain situation as "bad." This state of mind disallows him from considering that the negative event he finds himself in may actually be good.

To use an example, just because the medicine that the doctor prescribes is bitter does not mean that it is ultimately harmful.

God doesn't persuades people to believe in Him, as He is free from all wants. God simply provides the evidence, and those who are enlightened will take it for what it is.

Uhhh....Quantum Mechanics is showing us that for causality to exist every single possible cause and effect MUST also exist in a Multiversal System.

And there is absolutely not one single bit of any EVIDENCE that exists as far as a GOD or being left by a GOD.

    Nothing.

And if you believe there is by all means post this evidence.

I was being deliberately obtuse for the sake of mocking a common saying, while also asserting that there is no metaphysical reason other than literal causation for events.

It seems that this particular subtlety didn't get across.

Premise A: A person is suffering

Premise B: A hypothetical god does not want people to suffer

the other premises follow the standard problem of evil

Would you look at that, a formulation of the problem of evil that brings no emotion in the matter other than objective descriptions of the phenomena of emotion itself.

An omnipotent being has no reason to make the medicine bitter when we can as easily make the medicine sweet.

Then why do anything? Why create mankind?

Without desires, there is no motivation for any sort of action.

    The evidence is rather lacking.

The same way people "Know" God exists.....they Imagine it to be so. and POOF....it miraculously becomes true.

The only problem is that no one else can see inside their mind.

I don't mind if people say they are religious or have faith but it really irks me when they try to tell me or others that only what they believe is a reality ESPECIALLY when what they believe is backed by ZERO EVIDENCE.

And your assertion was dealt with.

Methinks that you're basing your whole argument on the Christian concept of God and evil. Thus, I can't really blame you for thinking the way you do on the subject.

    "Has no reason."

    You don't know that.

You are projecting the human psyche onto God.

Ahhhhhh,, I was just about to mention Led Zep II. Still my favourite Led Zeppelin album and the second album I ever bought. Ramble On is my favourite track but the bass line in The Lemon Song is rock history. Compare The Lemon Song to Howlin' Wolf's Killing Floor and you'd understand all the kerfuffle. Robert Johnson will be turning in his grave!

One of the funniest things I have ever seen is a Simpson's episode where Bart switches the sheet music played by the chuch organ player as Bart used Iron Butterfly and changed the words to...."In the Garden of Eden baby.....it means I love you sugar!"

    LOL!!!

I have no idea how to spell...Anagottadavida.

You failed to describe why you disagree with me, only that you do.

Describe your positions. Describe why you disagree with me. Dammit, I want high quality discourse here.

An omnipotent being can do literally anything. They don't have to do anything they don't want to. If an omnipotent god exists and you are suffering, it is because that god wanted you to suffer. They could have arranged things so that the same end goal would be reached without said suffering, but chose not to.

Omnipotent is a really powerful word.

The beloved escape hatch for every apologist who is forced to confront the irrationality of a hypothetical god's actions.

It's a cop-out. Rather than confronting the contradiction in what you have said, you choose to ignore it.

I find that theists usually just don't follow premises to their ultimately absurd conclusions. They find the first thing they can think of to ease their doubts and then stop thinking.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. I'm old enough to remember when it was first released. Had a profound effect on me as did Stairway to Heaven. I still have both songs in my playlist.

Huh? I clearly explained my reasons for disagreeing with you.

Again, I did indeed describe why I disagree with you: Just because it seems bad does not necessarily mean it really is. You do not know that suffering is really good for us. For example, suffering can be a method of purifying and humbling ourselves.

Yes, God is all powerful, but He is also all-wise, and everything He does is done through His perfect wisdom. Humans are limited in their thinking- they don't see beyond their own emotional state. Some prefer not to because it's easier to disbelieve that way.

It doesn't matter if it's really bad or not, because an omnipotent god could accomplish whatever he wants with or without suffering.

Seems pretty stupid to me if he hasn't figured out that he can do whatever he wants yet.

Disbelief doesn't take any effort, and I never actively sought it out. It simply happened when I started asking questions.

I do agree that some are permanently blind and so stubborn that there is no hope for them. But as a former atheist, I find it interesting to debate positions that I myself was adhering to some time ago. It's amazing just how clueless I used to be.

Of course it matters! If you knew it was good, then you wouldn't be whining and complaining the whole time. You'd be perfectly content in your suffering.

The problem here is that you are compartmentalizing God's attributes.

It certainly takes effort, though subconsciously.

I am not quite that old.

I am among other things a professional musician as this was my cover to get into East Germany back in the day during a Cultural Exchange.

They sent a Circus...we sent a Rock Band.

But an omnipotent god would still realize he was hurting people without reason.

You said while completely failing to grasp the full implications of omnipotence.

The cognitive dissonance I experienced as a believer was overwhelming. I have no such troubles as an atheist.
