I find it rather instructive--and frankly, quite surprising--that Iowa's Des Moines Register has now endorsed Gov. Romney for president. That is because the Des Moines Register is a quite liberal newspaper; it endorsed then-Sen. Obama in 2008, and had not endorsed a Republican presidential candidate in 40 years, until now. True, newspaper endorsements simply do not carry the same degree of clout that they once did. But if this can turn only a handful of votes in The Hawkeye State, it could be important for garnering its six electoral votes.
