How much money is sex worth?

The financial expectations of a Marilyn Monroe are higher than say, marrying a porn star for example.

How much sex do you want and what are you willing to get it?

Marrying your high school sweetheart and starting a family is worth X, provided she fufills all your sexual needs.

Never committing and having a revolving round of girlfriends costs you Y.

And buying hookers costs you Z.

Are there some numbers we can fill into this equation?

And please be intelligent- this thread is on edge with the site's rules but I think there is some knowledge to be learned here.

What is your philosophy of sex?

There would be numerous sub-markets depending on the type of 'consumer'. One could hypothesis that the average punter will not follow the law of demand. Simply put, high cost becomes a sign of value (although you could try and integrate pecuniary and non-pecuniary costs, with risk factored in via the probability of receiving a dose). Those looking for the cheapest option will often fall between the bounded rational and the downright irrational camps, the latter making any economic analysis dodgy to the extreme.

I have had women over the years on a "rental" basis and it, on average, has cost me a week's salary. So I know sex costs Z for me, which is a week's salary.

Round my parts z can be a cigarette. But with all the free on CL why pay.

I chose X which is actually a value added item. With X there is cost sharing so it is cheaper to keep her.

How is that interesting? I don't find your preference to exploit woman part of any economic analysis.

Marriage, in a community property state, costs 26 weeks of wages. LOL

Is it exploitation or capitalism if a woman chooses to engage in sex for profit?

Admittedly this generally isn't the case where prostitution is prohibited because it becomes an unregulated criminal enterprise where many women are forced into prositution but where it's legal and regulated I don't see it as being exploitation per se. There are no problems that I'm aware of in Nevada where there are legal brothels regulated by the State.

I don't let my personal opinions get in the way of objective analysis. I'd never 'buy' a woman. The very idea is abhorrent and I find folk that do despicable. But that is just me. We know the economics of prostitution is a big issue. We therefore have to confront it. We need to know its nature. A youngster rambling "I bought women" really isn't useful.

Capitalism and exploitation cannot be separated. The significant relationship between drug use and prostitution gives the game away somewhat

Oh no- I never said man or woman... you assumed that. The same equally applies to women. Sheesh.

My rental fees were $600: $300 for lap dances and drinks and $300 for Z. From the woman's POV, she made my week's salary in one night- how bad is that?

How bad is it being a whore?

It doesn't matter. The important aspect is that you haven't bothered with any economic analysis on the subject, in particular the extent of market failure and the limitation of standard supply and demand constructs.

I never asked to pay for sex... they always offered. And to get to that point, there are some pre-requisites that need to be met. I live in a depressed area and $300 is a lot of money for a woman to make- more than a 40 hour week at minimum wage. So I think a week's wages is fair for the act, even though the process costs more.

There has to be a clever hooker somewhere who has a stash or is in it for the short-term to get ahead. And it's safe sex too- I was more afraid of them pulling out a gun and robbing me than they were of me- I am a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)cat.

Heck- porn stars make a living off this and it's because they're willing to do X, Y and Z.

My original point was to ask is it cheaper to have a woman, a girlfriend or women you meet in bars. I have had all and will reserve my opinion.

There is still zero comment, a sad result given the economic analysis of these issues is actually quite substantial. Best leave the thread and leave you to the non-economic huff and puff

We like objects not merely because of their utilities but also for their histories. That's the reason why we have things like museums, and antique sellers, and stamp collections, and over priced t-shirts from rock concerts. It's why a person wouldn't trade their wedding ring for an exact copy even though the dollar valuation would be equal.

So commoditizing women would be a difficult task because some traits will be valued differently by one buyer from the next. For example how would you value an attractive, healthy, but infertile, late middle-aged woman; compared to a very unattractive, morbidly obese, fertile, young woman if you were interested in fathering children at some point but not necessarily anytime soon? How would you go about translating that into drachmas? :blankstare:

I misread the OP. This topic is about sex, specifically, not women.

$100 per half hour sounds fair. It'd be cheaper, through competition, without all these government regulations. :blankstare:

For me it was $300 in lap dances and drinks, then $300 for the actual sex.

I am talking about SEX. You can love someone but you also need sex. Is there a value to that?

If we'd lower the age of consent to 12, and we'd relax the alcohol and marijuana laws, then the dollar value would be lower than in a highly taxed economy.

First of all, lap dances aren't Sex, and drinks aren't Sex, so you're spending an exorbitant amount of cash on....foreplay? Ooh, icky. :blankstare:

You've got to get your spending under control you freakin liberal. :blankstare:

it really depends, look at McCain, left his wife for a much richer one, so how much did it cost him? I do not think you can put numbers in there like you would like too, too many variables

Interesting because some are willing to accept some of the physical services a person might provide, such as a massage where they use their hands, but for whatever reason won't accept the physical services if certain parts of the body are used. If a person can use their hands to provide a service then why would there be an objection to that person using another part of their body to provide a service? Just curious.
