Just saw this in the news and thought it would be refreshing to get opinions of this. http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2014/03/17/westboro-baptist-church-founder-near-death/?hpt=hp_t2 This man is responsible for causing so many people pain and anguish be it at funerals, other churches functions, concerts or other public places. I have to ask will you morn for him, or be glad to be rid of him? Should we picket his funeral or give him no attention at all. My personal opinion of the man is that I can't think of any other person in my days that has done more harm to Christianity then this guy. Well perhaps a couple fundies here, but they haven't affected as many people as this guy. What say you is he destined for heaven or hell?
How was his behavior different from the things prophets did in days before? He wanted to get a voice into the general public to condemn the excessive Sexual Promiscuity we see that has turned America into a matriarchy, one soon to be run by a woman, no doubt. The Gays are the voice of the movement which has changed the american culture from a previous Christianity to a wide open sexual whoredom with .2 million annual abortions, 1.5 million illegitimate babies we do not call bastards, which augment the 1.5 million legitimate babies born to tax payers. The inner cities in particular are uninhabitable dangerous places filled with fatherless children who commit 70% of all violent crimes. Nothing any church person has said or preached has made the point that Phelps has gotten out so cheaply and so effectively.

Most had to lay naked to get people to talk about the things they were 'preaching,"... or else knock over all the tables, chairs, desks, and merchandise in the churches and temples so people would pay attention. The church claims that they don't worship the dead and there will be no funeral. I think they are just scared to face a group of people doing what they have done to so many before.

The greatest thing about this man was how well he was at getting people who otherwise disagree with each other over everything to be able to despise him equally.
He was getting world wide FREE press against a now very successful and large, orderly organized and still growing Homosexual community that has been winning in an America which does NOT have the normal NORMS and ETHICS which women have. In the future, young males will be aggressively pressured and treated the way we have allowed the jail house Gays to attack Straight males they intend to assault. Men know that women can report strong undesired attention from males simply by calling a policeman, and the males KNOW they have no defense against her claims. This is NOT a protection granted to males. Gays can become a serious problem unbridled by the protections women have long held. But the more immediate fear for the American Society is that Gays believe and work to increase sexual promiscuity as a way of life. This has the long term effect of hurting whole populations as we see from the present STATs concerning fatherless kids now @ half the population.

You are right. I hear that there are 8 "elders" who took over the church. With any luck a power struggle will ensue and split the church into weak and ineffectual sub groups. Or they will stick together and continue to turn people away from christianity. I'm OK with either outcome.

An interesting footnote about Phelps is that while he was a lawyer, he took on many civil rights cases. In those days, most of the black lawyers could not afford to take pro bono cases.

How is it that in a Christian dominated society that Gays are able to change the culture? Depending upon the poll you believe, 80% of Americans "self identify" as Christian. But if you believe current polls a majority of Americans now are in favor of same sex marriage. This means one of two things; a) Many Christians no longer care if Gays get married. or b) Many of those "self identified" Christians in the polls are posers who are Christians in word but not by deed. So as I see it Gays are not the problem... its Christians falling from their principles. We live in a Democracy... really more a Representative Republic... where for better or worse the will of the people steers the direction of the Country. If 80% of Americans were really Christian then there would not be a chance in hell that same sex marriage would ever pass. So quit blaming Gays, as it is Christians who are letting down Christianity. For the record I am all for same sex marriage. America has never been a Christian Nation. We have never been a theocracy. Did you prefer it when the "sexual whoredom" was hidden?
