I watched it first time like 20 years ago and it is one of my favourites . Do yourself a favour and watch more Sergio Leone's movies !
It's a cult classic and I am proud to be a cultist. "Fist Full of Dollars" and "For a Few Dollars More" are shorter but just as good.
nope... is it similar? TBH i love westerns. but havent seen too many of them theyre like before my time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yDgkvWh3JQ Amigo, do yourself a favour and watch Tombstone...one of the all time greats, up there next to The Good, The Bad and the Ugly..........when youre gunna shoot, shoot....dont talk..... Adios....
Yeah it's one of the most fun films ever. Has a good message behind it too. If you liked this check out the rest of the Dollars trilogy, then check out Once Upon a Time in the West. Sooooooooo good, probably my favorite Western ever (and I've seen quite a few). Shane is probs my favorite one just to watch. It's so visually stunning and the story really grips you in and emotionally invests you in the town. If you like scenery in movies you will love this - probably the best use of setting I've seen in the genre. Somehow I get the feeling you're a John Wayne guy though
All of Sergio Leone's work was derivative. He just translated Akira Kurosawa's works into the Italian vision of the American South West. TGTB&TE was a rip-off of "The Hidden Fortress." "A Fist Full of Dollars" was adapted from "Yojimbo." Eastwood's character was based on the characters played by Toshiro Mifune. The dude aint no Toshiro Mifune. "The Last Man Standing" is also derived from "Yojimbo." Toshiro Mifune might still be fuming about that over on the other side.
I liked the spaghetti westerns and I saw them when they came out many years ago...but nothing beats the movie the Magnificent Seven...with the late Yul Brenner and Charles Bronson. Want to watch a great movie watch that one
That was also a knock-off. Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai." Horst Buchholz played the Mifune role. I should think that it was the truest to Kurosawa's vision. No question that it was the best of the genre.
Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes it results in people going to see Mifune films. See "The Seven Samurai" and then "The Magnificent Seven"- Seven Samurai is better....but "Magnificent Seven" is a wonderfully American film. Other westerns that I particularly like are Rio Bravo and Silverado.
For a Few Dollars More is my favorite of the three. I like Lee Van Cleef better as Colonol Mortimer than Angel Eyes. And it definitely has a creepier vibe. That music at the end during the showdown...talk about suspense!
